I am completely new to PortableApps and before I start wasting hours with experimenting, I thought it a better idea to ask first.
I have an external hd attached to my router in order to access data from remote location via internet. So far I am able to access with FTP. Reason is that I am pretty often in remote offices and don't want to carry around an HD.
I think it would be nice to directly start certain software on this HD from remote location and e.g. listen to music I have saved on it with a cute little app. Sure, I can as well download music files to the pc at hand and start something like songbird locally. But I simply wonder whether it is possible to use PortableApps in a way as Tonido Software (tonido.com).
Would be nice if someone has time to answer.

I'm not sure about it as I never accessed a drive remotely, but I think this will work if you mount the HD with it's own drive letter as network drive.

@Benedikt93: Yep, that works for local access, i.e. if you have several machines building a local network. Have that, works perfectly, but just doesn't work over the internet-I tried this today from remote.
Sounds like you could try Opera Unite. There's a great article on Lifehacker that reviews it. If you look through the comments people give a bunch of other alternatives, so you could also find options there.
As far as portable apps, I haven't seen anything that can do what you're describing. Maybe if you put in a request for some open source software that does what you want, someone will create a portable build of it for you. I don't really understand how this will help you though, because you'll either need a flash drive with the program on it to run on the computer you're at, or you'll need the hard drive with you files on it to be attached to a windows machine so it can serve up your files.
