Application: Age of Empires Launcher Portable
Category: Games
Download: https://sourceforge.net/projects/aoelauncher/files/AgeOfEmpiresPortable_...
Usage:
- Install the portable app.
- Place the installation files from "Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires" version of Age of Empires into the "App\AgeOfEmpires" directory.
- The CD-Rom must be in your cd drive for the game to work.
- Launch the game.
Hope this is useful for someone.
This is great, good work. Any chance on an AOE2: AOK release?
To wit, that we are all fools....
Sure thing. I will get work on it as soon as I can.
I will also create launchers for the AoE1 Expansion and for the Age of Kings Expansion.
I have been looking for a way to get around having to carry the cdrom with you. The only workaround I have found requires administrator access. Admin access is required for mounting ISOs. Any suggestions for other workarounds?
I have updated the AoE Launcher to include the expansion pack. I will create a launcher for Age of Kings next.
yes, some memorysticks are able to create a cdfs partition, flash it up it.
there are also some programs but they require admin acces
Except no-cd patching the game there aren't any workarounds AFAIK.
Ask during startup if you want to create a ISO, and tell that you will need administrator privileges to run it, that would at least give the user an option to be able to play without CD.
Alright I think that is what I'll do. Would it be possible for the installer to be aware whether Infrarecorder is installed and use that? If so is there an example somewhere for me to look at it? Thanks!
Or you could try to use the free program CDBurnerXP to create the iso, it supports command line options. Or at least I think, I never tried it but I guess you could at least check it out, if it works I assume you can include it with the installer(since it's freeware, but I guess you should ask the guy who is doing this program nicely): http://cdburnerxp.se/ (it's not in Swedish despite the .se domain)
Also, I'm not aware what language you created the installer in(I'm waiting for you AoE 2 release), but I only know a bit about NSIS, and that's it. Otherwise I do some PHP programming for fun but that is kinda hard to create portable applications in
Doesn't CDBurnerXP require .NET? Since all .NET apps are non-portable, you wouldn't be able to include it with the installer.
"The question I would like to know, is the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. All we know about it is that the Answer is Forty-two, which is a little aggravating."
Yeah you're right, and looking at the available command options there is no way to create a iso-file.
Sorry guys, I've been pretty busy lately. I will get an AoE2 release out hopefully this week.
Doesn't Infrarecorder support command line? If so I could integrate the installer with that fairly easily. Otherwise I will include instructions for creating the ISO in a text file.
Oh, I must have confused InfraRecorder with some other program, cause I didn't know it was open-source and all. Well it's even portable so it seems perfect. Either way you can still distribute it with the launcher(I think, or you could include instructions along with a URL to get it).
Sorry for the confusion.
Alright! Age of Kings Launcher Portable is up on the site.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/aoelauncher/files/
I have updated the Age of Empires 1 launcher as there was a possible bug that could cause the launcher to not backup saved registry entries. The fix was applied to both launchers.
I also updated the INSTALL.txt file for the new launcher. Same as before, you'll have to copy over the Age of Empires II Directory that is in Program Files to the AgeOfKings folder on the portable device.
Let me know what you think.
Could you please make a launcher for the Conquerors Expansion?
I'm hoping some one still looks at this thread. I'm sorry to resurrect it. However, I've downloaded and followed the instructions for this loader (yes, I own the game and have the disk), but when I try to run single player mode in the game on a computer that it is NOT already loaded on, I get an error stating "You must insert a game CD to play single player..." (or something the like), even when the disk is in the CD drive. How can I use this on a computer that the game's not already loaded on? I've tried no-CD cracks (I feel it's okay since I own the game) and copying the "cracked" files into the "App" directory but that only works on a computer where the game has been loaded. Looking forward to seeing a solution.

When you install the game, you must select "Full Install", otherwise it won't work, even with the no-cd crack. You'll need to use the crack aswell.
I did use the full install. But when I take the Thumb-drive to another computer.... same old story.
