Downloads folder

The icons used by PA.c are great, and they do keep that portable user folder idea going. However I think that it should also have a downloads folder. I can't remember if XP did or not, but my Vista computer and I know Win7 has a custom Downloads folder icon. I have FireFox Portable set to put everything in X:\Documents\Downloads. Any chance we could see that in the next release?

I'm going to go against this

I'm going to go against this Smile

If there was going to be a new folder in the Documents folder, then the Platform would also have to implant a new button, and that would make it look uglier Blum

Also, downloading directly to a USB makes it's life a lot less.

So you can choose not to download and or use the folder...I don't think we necessarily need to add it to the menu, but it would make the general theme look better.

Me too

but I would still like a "downloads" folder (I usually download stuff to the host desktop then copy stuff to my documents folder).

Why does it shorten the life?

Would it be better to download to a hard drive and then save it to the USB flash drive? I prefer to keep as much of my stuff away from the hard drive as possible.

Don't get flashy

I think the general premise is that you should download files to a fixed hard drive and copy/install stuff to your flash drive as needed, to lessen the wear and tear on the flash drive. Thus having a downloads folder on your flash drive is redundant.

Of course, even hard drives have a limited number of write cycles but it's a lot higher than Flash drives. Smile

I'm with Jacob though, just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it.

The other thing is...

Honestly most people seem to use their flash drives as almost disposable. Most people seem to upgrade at least once a year...

Times are a changin'

I'm sure a 32GB flash drive will look pathetically tiny this time next year! Wink

I still have an MP3 player with 32MB memory. Smile

Reason: Performance

Downloading directly to your drive is a bad idea for nearly everyone with a flash drive. As you are downloading, it is constantly writing to the flash drive. And, with most flash drives, when it is writing, it can't read. So, while you are downloading, the performance of all your apps tanks.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
