Customizable but Common Portable Apps Splashscreen

Hello,

I'm new to Portable Apps and converting some apps which I need.
Now I'm searching this (such a) Portable Apps Splashscreen,
which I can customize. Probalby there is a XCF/PSD file
available. Because there look all similar. SumatrPDF, Gimp2, etc.
But where? Can't find such a "template"

The official splash screens

The official splash screens are made by all made John (I think, it's possible it's someone else) and I'm pretty sure there's no xcf/psd available. This is because only official apps get their own splash. Others should use the dev. test one.

psshhh

Ain't nothing there that can't be done in 5 minutes with the GIMP and free fonts - Helvetica schmelvetica, if you're married to the font, you can tweak Arial to be indistinguishable in a few quick steps.

But, does a paf need to use a splash screen only created by the Hand of John? Just because it's copyrighted doesn't mean he can't provide it to devs that will be posting here, so he doesn't have to do everything!

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

The point behind John being

The point behind John being the only one to give out official splash screens is surely that (despite this being an OSS project) portableapps.com is essentially a brand. Having millions of apps floating around with similar splash screens would, John seems to think, weaken that brand.

I'm guessing that's the idea anyway.

I'd love to see millions of apps!

LOL
I know that the icon, the name, and a lot of the artwork are trademarked/copyrighted.
But here's a slightly different question: suppose I'm an original developer, and I want to create my app as portable, using the folder structure and open source nsis files provided here. Shouldn't I be able to create my own splash screen graphic if it doesn't include any copyrighted graphics?

Yes

Sure you can

You can create Solanus Portable on your own, using the PAF and your own graphics, logos, and splash.

As long as you don't use anything that someone else has the copyright/trademark for you're fine.

Project forking. I think

Project forking. I think John really hates it, but Smile

Honestly, until things get really unbearable here, I think its better to work with a established community.

That sounds strange to me and

That sounds strange to me and perhaps
I don't understand the idea of OpenSource
and what you explained (I'm sure you recognized
that I'm not a native english speaker)

What I understand is:
Only apps which passed "a quality check" by john can
become oficial realeases and can use that splash-screen?

Is there a real free solution/implementation of
that protable apps mechanism and application?
Perhaps a fork?

Would be good if there are real free and common logos/images
and other resources to use with protable apps.

Okay, the portableapps logo

Okay, the portableapps logo are copyright of the portableapps project, which JOhn own.

The PAF format is something that anyone can use. Its not copyright protected.

Everything is opensource and free.

Copyright logos is actaully common place, Mepis Linux does the same. This is so that they can theoretically control who and what uses the logo. By doing this, they can insure quality.

Its not a modified splash. Yeas, I agree that the glassing could easily be done GIMP, I could probably figure out how to do it if I cared.

Something that's PAF doesn't have to have a splash from the hand of John.

We suggested that he provide it to the defunct release team, but he didn't like that.

Impressive

That's pretty darn impressive!

I'm no graphics guy, but I might try my hand at that for a couple of my own apps.

Thanks for the link!

Official Releases

The splash screen is reserved for official releases after they are stable and at a certain point. It's used to indicate a certain level of stability and quality.

Currently, I'm the only one with access to the file but, ideally, we're going to have a release team with a couple of 'drivers' that can also make splashes. It uses two non-free fonts, so we'll need to buy additional copies when that happens. This was the plan for the first release team incarnation which, sadly, didn't get to that point. We will be reforming the release team with new members with an expected level of participation shortly after the website fixes are done.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

ImageMagick?

Is it possible to set up a wizard to make the splash screens using something like ImageMagick?

(On second thought, no, that's way too much effort...)
