Huh?

What's up with the so-called Linux version? It's a .paf.exe, which is a Windows executable, not a Linux binary...

Edit: Looks nice, but I miss the icons on the tabs up top. Now the tabs are tiny and tend to get lost amongst the rest of the controls. Oh wait, nevermind, there's an option to put the icons back. But it's odd, the prefs said it was already set to show icons+text, but I only saw text initially until I cycled the option.

My

mistake, dodgy copy-and-paste error there Wink Fixed now. I shall take a look at the icons, thanks.

zip?

Why is it a zip archive? You should know people want .tar.gz for Linux!

zip

works too I think. Or do you know of a distro without zip support?

.tar.gz is just what things use. Never mind whether they support zip...

Don't care

I use ubuntu, and I don't really care. It's like the difference between .Exe and .Msi. I'm more disapointed that theres no .deb or repository. (Then again, the interface is broken in Ubuntu, so it doesn't really matter) Smile

Please clarify some release notes

>Fully threaded scripts
What does it mean?

>Full read-only device support
Does it only affect the target or also read-only sources?

Does it also mean support for non existing devices?

Also, what about toucan.tmp?

Means that Sync, Backup,
  1. Means that Sync, Backup, Secure and all of the other commands that you can run are all performed in a separate thread to the GUI so it will always remain responsive
  2. Nope, although that should have been fixed separately
  3. Nope, that is not done yet
  4. No, because the toucan.tmp is not what you think it is.

    Development Test 2

has now been uploaded with a host of neat new frequently requested features. There is no Linux update for this release as I am battling with a nasty bug under Ubuntu.

    That

is just the launcher which I forgot to update the version number on, the actual Toucan exe is the correct version Smile

    just a suggestion

why dont you have an option to have a Office Ribbion like bar to have it easier to use and see the icons.

edit: nevermind the tabs look almost similiar to the Ribbon in the Microsoft Office suite

    still including excluded folder

I just tried the v3.0 test 2 and it still has the bug where the excluded folder shows up in the destination when doing a sync with mirror option... the folder is empty, but still showing up. There is an error that says the folder could not be deleted due to being in use. The only one using the folder at the time was Toucan.

I am sooo wanting to start using this application to do all my backups, but it still has quite a few bugs based on all the forum posts... I hope a new release is coming soon, so I can try it again...

    Amazingly

after such a long break a new development test is now out! Although it does not look like much has changed there has been a large amount of work put into the new directory control that lies behind all of the computer browser and file browser panels, they are now fully multi-threaded and should be far more responsive than in the past! There are also new icons based on the oxygen set to help the general fit with the platform and a few other minor bugfixes.

The release is currently Windows only but I hope to upload a newer Linux version and user manual in the next few days. Hopefully I will have more time to develop Toucan as the past few weeks have been heavily dominated by university work, nearly at the next holiday though! I am currently planning five development tests in total followed by as many pre-releases as needed to polish it up, the next dev test will focus on backup and the one after on sync.

I've been using linux for over six years, currently use several different distros on different equipment, and I've never seen a linux distro with an 'App' directory. Do you have another suggestion?

    You are

supposed to just drop the linux install over an existing windows one and keep it all self-contained in one folder.

    The

Linux Dev Test 3 has now been uploaded, this marks the first release of general Linux functionality, i.e. everything should just about work, even if there are lots of rough edges! As with the previous version you need to install it in a Windows Toucan install, the folder structure in the tar.gz file should make it clear. Please post any issues with this and the windows release, thanks Smile

    Icons

The tab icons are still not showing up in a clean install, even though the default setting is "Icons and Text". Cycling the setting fixes it, but this is still odd behavior.

Oh, and clicking the gutter in the Compression Level slider does nothing. Ideally it should move one notch in the direction of the mouse when you click in the gutter.

    Continually Crashes in Windows 7

I'm running Win 7 64-bit. From a clean install, I toggle the icons on and then change Toucan from "full screen" to windowed. If I try to move the window around, Toucan crashes. I haven't been able to test anything else out since I haven't made it past that.

    Toucan Crashes

Toucan crashes on Windows 7 64bit when you click on the plus button to add a variable to the main box on the variables tab.
