VLC: Skin problem

I'm trying to make use of skins, but can't seem to do it. I've followed the directions on the VLC page, and I get nothing except the default Skins2 skin. What am I doing wrong?
****EDIT****
I've since found that the problem seems to be isolated to the iPod skin that is available.

I encounter exactly the same problem !
Looks like we are not placing the vlt files in the right folder ???

I have also tried to place the skin files in the vlc folder (and not in the portable one) but with about the same amount of success that is to say absolutely none ...

Any ideas ?

Well having investigated a

Well having investigated a bit further, it looks like VLC portable is a bit buggy skinwise ...

In the preference menu I checked the skinnable box.

It only leeds VCL to bug completely when I change skin and try to restart ...
I think we will just have to stick to the plain old default skin ...

VLC Itself

VLC itself is very buggy skinwise.. it's not VLC Portable's issue. You need to manually edit your VLC file for skins besides Skin2 and for skins to be remembered between launches.

Skins

Do NOT click the skinable box. (Have no idea what this box is for.)

Look up and to the right and there is a dropdown box on that tab in prefs.

Click the arrow to drop down the list and click skins in there.

Shutdown VLC and restart. (May not have to do this.)

After VLC restarts press Control S. If you have put the skins in the right place a menu of the skins will come up and you can choose the one you want.

VLC will remember the skin.

I'm doing this from memory but will double check when I get back home.

Ok I found the tab abd selected skinnable ...

It only resultes in gatting the other skin...

What about the other skins I put in the skin folder ???
How can I reach them?
I tryed changing file names, or changing the use skin in the prefs ...
but then VLC does not appera anymore ?

I think I'll just ehave to stick to that ugly plain skin or to the awfull black one ...

Ask at VLC

Ask in the VLC forums or look in the VLC documentation. This issue has nothing to do with the portable version and is actually a VLC issue. I don't use skins in VLC and don't know anyone else who does, so you'll get a better anwswer on VLC's site than you will here.

step 1- copy the skin you

step 1- copy the skin you downloaded in to the skin folder of vlc portable
step 2- start vlc, switch interface to skin2,then then right click to choose the skin you installed, close vlc.
step 3-restart vlc, again switch interface to skin2,if previous steps where done ok
your new skin should the one in use.
step 4-right click to go in preferences, select :interface/main interface and from
the drop down menu select skinneable interface as the module at startup then click save. exit and restart, it should restart with the new skin without any further selection. to change skin go back in preferences to reselect the default module for the main interface, restart aply the other skin then follow all steps above.

reply skin problem

actually I have a problem with the orrigionally version of VLC. I've done something wrong in the skin-prefrences, now the program starts 2 time and is getting a fattal error by trying to change things. If I delete and unzip the folder again the problem didn't get away.

In the portable version I had the same, but I could solve the problem. So I could say the portable version is actually better then the real one.
