Can folder watch work with portable apps (Songbird) on portable devices?

I was making a DVD of music for my friend's birthday when it occurred to me that it would be wicked clever to have a preset Songbird on the DVD that had the music in the library. I started experimenting, trying \ and %cur_dir% and anything else I can think of (Google isn't being helpful at the moment).

Is there any clever way of going about this? I want Songbird to scan whatever drive the DVD happens to be and load the media into the library. Is this even possible with a read-only media like a DVD?

*Bada-Bump*

I've had the same question, with no decent answer found by searching the forum. I'd think there should be a variable to give the drive letter, but I'm not finding it.

Any help?

fraid not

SongBird only supports absolute paths in its media database, which is an actual sqlite database, not just a text file.

The launcher can correctly update the database entries for you when the drive letter changes (not the path, just the drive letter), but to do so, it must be able to write back the updates to the database file, which means that it cannot work from a DVD. Sorry.

So while it doesn't work for

So while it doesn't work for the OP's problem, it probably could with mine...

What I was trying to do is a bit more simple. Rather than watching a folder on a DVD, I'm looking to watch the %DRIVE%/iPod_Control/Music folder on the iPod. I'm hoping it'll work as a rough approximation of iPod support.

Thanks!

Just Add It

If you're running Songbird from said iPod, just add that directory. And done.

If you're running Songbird locally, just add that folder on that iPod. Then set that iPod to always have the same drive letter (Google for help). And done.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
