Updated my portable 3.5 version to the 3.6 version, in the same way as I always do.
Before I moved the 3.5 version around from pc to pc, with no problems whatever.
Now, when I type in an url, firefox doesn't show a list of suggestions from the history. When I check history everything's there, when I go through google for that link, the link in the google search is highlighted, meaning I have indeed already been to that site. But firefox doesn't give me the list.
I also have a regular install of firefox and there the problems don't occur, when I start typing 'porta' it gives me a dropdown with the visited portableapps links.

Check your configuration in Options > Security > Location Bar
You probably want it to say "History and Bookmarks"

Hi. It's very likely that it's being caused by a small problem with an extension changing one or two default settings in FFP. Please follow the steps to check (and repair) if this happened:
1) In a blank window/tab, type "about:config" (without the quotes) into the URL bar, then press enter
2) Click on "I'll be careful, I promise!" (note: you must be careful here, don't click on stuff and do exactly as I say)
3) Under "Filter" type "bar" to narrow down the entries.
4) Look for an entry named browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled. It MUST be set to "default, boolean, true". If it says "user set, boolean, false", then simply double-click on it and it should change to true.
5) Look for an entry named browser.urlbar.default.behavior. It MUST be set to "default, integer, 0". If it says "user set, integer, some_number", then simply double-click on it, input zero ("0" without the quotes), click "OK" and it should change to default.
6) Close the tab, and try to type something from your browsing history into the URL bar to see the difference.
Hopefully, everything is OK now, and you can continue to enjoy using FFP. If it's not, then read on...
- IF it was set to default to start with, then don't change anything there!
- In case that didn't help, it's not a problem with the usual setting, but an extension might still be interfering with it. Then, could you look for any "user set" entry that starts with "browser.urlbar.", and copy them here?
- Also, to see if an extension is causing the problem, try running Firefox in Safe mode. If you don't know how, leave a note and I'll explain how to do it with FFP (haven't tried it, but nevertheless it should work).

Those two entries were set as you wrote. Couldn't find any user entry with browser.urlbar
However I did start up in safe mode, and all I checked was the disable the addons, all other checkboxes I left untouched. And then I did get the suggestions again, so I'm guessing it's an addon whats interfering?
Hi. It's great to have some progress, but we're not there yet... It's most likely being caused by an add-on if it worked in Safe mode with add-ons disabled. Now you have to determine which particular add-on is causing it. Try disabling each of them (of course, not in the Safe mode, run FFP as usuall when doing this) and try out with each of them disabled. When it works with a certain add-on disabled, you've found your renegade add-on!
If you have a lot of add-ons, then it might be easier to disable them in groups of, lets say, 3 at the time, and see when you get your awesome bar to search through history. When that happens, just try enabling 2 of them, leaving one disabled... You get the idea...
When you narrow it down to a particular add-on, then there are several (not so great, but often working) actions you can take.
- First, I suggest you go through that add-on's settings, and see which one of them might be doing it. Then try changing that/those suspicious settings to see if it got fixed. You should look for any preference referring to history, search, deleting/removing something, or even bookmarking. For the best end result, what I highly recommend, you shouldn't give up after first unsuccessful settings change. If you can't change it back as you would like it via manual change of settings, try restoring that add-on's settings to default. They usually have an option like that...
- If it didn't help, then you should check out that add-on's page on mozilla ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ - your language might be different, you can easily change it at the bottom of the page). Look for any "known issues", or if others have reported it messing up their search-history function in the awesome bar. There might be some useful clues on how to fix it there.
- You should also update the add-on (if available) to see if it helps.
- Last, if nothing helped, you might (re)consider how big is that of an inconvenience for you, and how much you need or use that add-on. If you don't need it, and it's a big inconvenience for you, just disable it or uninstall. But I think it's probably some useful add-on, so you'll just have to learn to live with it for a while (and file a bug report to the developer of that add-on), until it get's fixed.
When you've done the steps above, would you mind sharing with us which add-on was it? So others might try it out and confirm the bug and/or find a solution...
Now some info about my previous post, if you're interested. The first entry in about:config you checked (step 4) enables auto-complete in the awesome bar. In a way, it actually enables the awesome bar to work. Without it you would never be prompted with anything in the URL bar. The second entry (step 5), if set to zero, enables the awesome bar to search through both your browsing history and bookmarks.

Removed all addons, and still the same problems, reverted to the backup 3.5.8 version, and that's working fine
OK, the old version was in fact 3.5.5, with outwit addon and ms framework assistent 1.0.
Just updated to the 3.6.2 version, and gone are the suggestions. All the addons are not compatibel with the new 3.6.2 version.
