Problem sending mail (an SSL OR TLS problem?)

Hello,

I installed Thunderbird portable 3.0.3 on my USB disc, copied mail files in the relevant folder, adjusted account and server settings as they were. Everything looks fine, I can receive e-mails without a problem, but I can not send any. The only difference with the conventional Thunderbird settings for outgoing server is unified option for SSL/TLS for connectio security in TBP while they are separate options in TB. Error message is 'connection time out with SMTP server'.

I also tried STARTTLS and None options and this time a relay problem was reported. Also IT department responsible for the servers was helpless as I was the only case using TBP among users.

Can anybody help me with this problem? Why are these settings unified in TBP? Can this be the problem with sending mail, or should I look somewhere else?

All the best

Settings

It sounds like the issue has to do with the settings that you're using, either server and/or port. The IT department should be able to give you all of that pertinent information and it should very easily translate into TBP.

solved...but by using another program

It turns out that I was right. I installed Eudora portable (which also uses thunderbird as a base) which has these server connection security settings SSL and TLS as separate options. Switching SSL for incoming server and 'TLS, if available' for outgoing, I was able to send mail. Still, I wonder why it isn't possible in TBP.
