This is an application that I made myself but I am in no way self promoting it. It's called Ultimate Video Converter and as you can guess it is a video converter. I have been a avid follower of PortableApps.com for quite some time and I decided that it would be a good idea to release the application as a PortableApps.com 2.0 Installer as I have not seen any video converters released on the website. The application is programmed in .NET (which I realise can never be truly portable, but oh well!). It is released under the GPLv3 and is hosted on SourceForge. You need to have .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your computer which you can get from here.

Sorry but your application has such a big bug, that you can't even use it.
Desciption: error message when you want to add a file to convert. Result: unable to convert anything (I use WinXP)
Do you think you're gonna fix it?

Try installing the non portable version to see if that produces the same result. That way the dev can see if the issue is isolated to the portable version or if it's a bug in the base app.

Could you tell me exactly what the error says so I can try and fix it. Also I have tried it in XP but it worked fine. Do you have .NET Framework 3.5 installed on your computer? I will definitely fix it if I can. Thanks.

Updated to latest version again (1.9.0.0). It can now convert to audio formats.

the program seems to start up. well, the Portable app picture comes up and then nothing.
I even tried starting up as admin. same behavior

Do you have .Net 4 installed on your computer? Try installing .NET 4 and the non portable version.

Only .NET 3.5 is automatically installed with windows 7. You can get 4 here.
this is me being paranoid, but is there anything "bad" about NET 4?
I mean, will my laptop explode?

If it does explode, it's unlikely to have been due to installing .NET 4. It would probably have exploded anyway.

I've never heard of anything bad regarding .NET except occasional security vulnerabilities that require patches/service packs.

It opens the UltimateVideoConverterPortable part of the app, but after the splash comes up, it closes. I don't see any other program being opened.
x64 Win 7 with .NET 4.0

Try opening the UltimateVideoConverter.exe directly from the App/UltimateVideoConverterPortable folder and see what happens then. It seems to work fine for me - I'm on x86 Windows 7 so that might be a difference. If it is a bug I'll try and sort it.

I do have .NET 4.0 installed, but I'm on x64.

The error is actually a very common one on older versions of .net but not on 4. I got hold of a win 7 64 bit computer but it seemed to work fine. The only thing I can suggest is to install the no portable version from here.
I'm going to try reinstalling .NET to see if that works.

plus, I also hate that it defaults to PAL. yes, I change it to NTSC in the Custom thingy, but, well. I'm just frustrated

From what format to what format are you trying to convert to? And what does the error say. And in a few releases time I will change the default to NTSC.
well, my goal is to find an uncompressed format that will load into my After Effects.
the original is an AVI from a camera. for some reason AE refuses to load that AVI.
I tried going to the two versions of AVI that are listed (I'm not on that computer now and my friend is hogging my laptop)
but I get the same message "failed to convert" comment.

Problem likely to be with input file especially because ae didn't load it either

I have a very old version of AE because i can't afford to upgrade
I have converted these avi's using a linux program however that is on a live CD (which makes the process a bit cumbersome) and i was hoping to find a windows program that did it faster.

The program that actually does the conversion is Ffmpeg. My program just captures the output of ffmpeg. The problem is I can't really fix the problem unless I have the input file which you are using. The only other thing I can suggest is to try to convert the file into a different format like mp4. I know you wanted a uncompressed format but as a test this will tell me if ffmpeg has trouble with input or output. Also if there is nothing personal in the video could you post a link to it here.

the problem for me is that it's not uncompressed and it becomes PAL (which means it eliminates frames)

I've checked and it is very difficult to convert to uncompressed video. Even great softwares like VLC have trouble with it. Even the AVI in the converter compresses the video. The only other thing I can think of is to use a losless codec which would preserve the quality but would still compress the video. Sorry I couldn't help you
I know I'm doing something that most people are not attempting, so I can't be surprised it's a bit difficult

This is working well in converting some classwork .mov files to a format my older ipod touch can deal with.
Any chance of updating to the 3.0 version?

Thanks for the software mate, real helpful. Just one tiny trouble using the software. Its too long to fit on the screen of my laptop (my resolution is 1366*766). I can hardly see the bottom. And one more thing if possible, just an added functionality, being able to make a queue. Other than these two small things, your software is prefect for my needs.
