ERROR LAUNCHING T-BIRD / UNINSTALLING T-BIRD

I AM GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN TRYING TO LAUNCH T-BIRD. IT READS 'ERROR LAUNCHING U3 APPLICATION. I TRIED TO UNINSTALL THE T-BIRD PROGRAM AND GOT ANOTHER ERROR THAT READ 'ERROR UNINSTALLING THE PROGRAM. T-BIRD UNINSTALL FAILED'. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHAT TO DO? I NEED HELP

Antivirus

Most likely, you have a poorly-behaved antivirus program that "found" a virus in one of the stub programs included with TB for U3 and automatically deleted it (a very poor configuration). Browse to your U3 device, be sure you have Windows set to show hidden and read-only files and see if the following files exist:

X:\System\Apps\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15\Exec\ThunderbirdForU3HostConfigure.exe
X:\System\Apps\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15\Exec\ThunderbirdForU3Start.exe
X:\System\Apps\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15\thunderbird_u3_1.5.0.42_en-us.u3p

If they don't, your virus program probably deleted them. Unfortunately, this type of situation is a bit difficult on U3 and requires manually fixing the program on your device. To do this, follow these directions:

1. Download a new copy of thunderbird_u3_1.5.0.42_en-us.u3p
2. Copy this file to your U3 device in the following directory:
X:\System\Apps\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15
3. Rename the file on your PC (not where you copied it to your U3 device) to thunderbird_u3_1.5.0.42_en-us.zip
4. Open up the file in your Zip program and copy out the Device directory within it.
5. Copy the files from inside this Device directory to your U3 device:
H:\System\Apps\FEFECB84-0E05-42d8-B044-F2D0FCFF8C15\Exec

I know that's a bit complicated, but it's the only way to repair a U3 program once it's been corrupted by an outside event (in this case, a poorly behaving antivirus program).

And, btw, please chill with the capital letters. Typing in all caps online is shouting and is exceedingly rude.

John,

Why didn't you just change it yourself?
Maybe if someone (*cough*Ashes and Lurk*cough*) was a moderator, they could change it for you and you could focus on making the apps?

Yeh

I haven't seen her around for a while. Maybe she read this and then disappeared in a wisp of smoke. Biggrin
