I updated to the new version, and now the damned thing won't even run.
It's either the firefox update itself, or the flash player update that I got before I restarted firefox (did not come back up). Both were gotten from legitimate sources.

Seems the problem was that firefox was running as a background process, but not on the desktop. Shut down the process manually in the task manager to fix it.
Though it does reveal that there might be something wrong with the "restart firefox" button.
