I have regular Firefox 3.6 running fine, but would like to launch Firefox Portable running as a second copy (ie. multiple instance) of Firefox. This allows me to keep separate bookmarks and histories.
I've checked other threads about "Question: run two firefox-portables simultaneously?", and other issues regarding running "Another instance", but I still get an error message that "another instance of firefox is already running".
Is it possible to run two separate instances of Firefox, each with their own data, bookmarks, histories, etc?
Are you using the FirefoxPortable.ini as outlined in the FirefoxPortable\Other\Source\Readme.txt?

That's great! I hadn't seen a reference to the
readme.txt
file you mentioned, which was more complete than the one I saw inApp\DefaultData\settings
.I had also forgotten to rename the
FirefoxPortableSettings.ini
file toFirefoxPortable.ini
But now works as expected. Many thanks.
What FirefoxPortableSettings.ini do you mean? The one inside the /Data/settings folder?
You should copy the FirefoxPortable.ini from /Other/Source to the FirefoxPortable folder and then change AllowMultipleInstances=false to AllowMultipleInstances=true.
Thats it.
