Get Mail Button not functioning

Hi all,

I am having problems with recently installed Thunderbird Portable 1507. Initially all worked well. That is until I declined the program internet access on one occasion. Since this time GET MAIL does nothing and the timed message feature download tells me I have new messages but doesn't actually download them.

I can still download mail using ;
a)file> get new messages for
b)using the drop down sub menu arrow to the right of the get mail button
c)CTRL-SHIFT-T

I have tried going offline and back on again. I have also checked server settings. Automatically download new messages and check every 10 mins is ticked. All others fields are not ticked. I am stuck here and don't know where to try next.

Any ideas? Perhaps my only option is to re-install?

Thanks for any advice

Mick

Declined?

That would mean it's your firewall program blocking it. It's nothing to do with TBP and reinstalling won't help. You need to change your firewall's settings.

Firewall?

Thanks John,

I have already tried this. I should have said-,sorry! All thunderbird access is granted on my set up of zone alarm. I have always had Windows firewall disabled(as far as I know).... will investigate that one again though just in case.

The GET MAIL button doesn't appear to even pretend to try and do anything. Control-Shift-T and other methods WORK without a problem. Wouldn't a firewall block all methods of connection?

I wasn't very clear when I said that I had denied TP internet access previously. To clarify, I clicked on the CANCEL option on the dial up networking box. I have never denied access via a firewall.

Thanks for your help.

Mick.

Are you using a router/modem?

They sometimes have built in firewalls.

No router installed.

No router. I have a speedtouch USB 550. Thanks for the suggestion though. I still can't understand is why the "Get Mail" button doesn't work, but "Get all new messages" does. Surely the "get mail" button only replicates the "get all new messages" option? Doesn't it? Could there be a corrupt TP system file not pointing to right place I could look at. Thats assuming I would know what to look for and where. Any ideas welcome.

Cheers,

Mick

Well,

I'm assuming it's either corrupt TB or a corrupt profile.
Mind you, I could be totally off, late night posting does that to you (11:08 PM here) Biggrin

Glad you agree.

Thanks R for backing up what I have been thinking for a while. I will download a new copy and install it sometime during the week. Not looking forward to adding all those rules again. Argh!

My reason for asking for help here is sometimes there may be an simple overlooked (by me) solution that advice can put right. When I install, I will try to replicate the problem BEFORE adding the message rules. I will post whay happens here.

Thanks all for your help.
