Too Early

Sunbird 1.0 hasn't even hit alpha yet. Using it for anything but messing about and testing would be a very bad idea.

Now that the Sunbird 1.0 Beta

Now that the Sunbird 1.0 Beta 1 has been announced as the final public release of Sunbird, will a portable version now become available?

"final public release" - did

"final public release" - did Mozilla drop Sunbird? I know there was a lot of discussion about that, but I thought they decided to keep it going?

Correct

As of now, Sunbird is now *DEAD*. All future work goes into the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird.

Oh no!

Man, I really loved that calendar. I don't particularly like TBird, so I'm just going to stay with Sunbird for now.
Do you know if anybody's planning to pick up the torch?

Doubtful

It makes more sense to have it in an email client. It can link up with Thunderbird's address book as well. You don't even need to use it for email. Just addresses, calendar and tasks.

Worth a try, I reckon

Well, I guess I'll bite the bullet and see how TBird + Lightning work. TBird Portable + Lightning is still portable, right?
(And yeah, I still hope somebody takes over Sunbird; I love that calendar)

Oops

I was looking in the Internet section, where Thunderbird is; I just took a closer look and found it in the Office section. Sorry.

Still too early or already too late ?

First of all, I just wanna say Hello to everybody in the forum and a big Thank You especially to John who started all this up and made all this portable apps stuff possible long time ago.

Being one of the long time sunbird users I would like to know - after the 1.0 Beta 1 seems definitely the last published sunbird version:

Is it is worth waiting for the portable version of it or will I be forced to switch to Lightning inside Thunderbird ?

Switch to Thunderbird + Lightning

Sunbird is officially dead. If a security issue comes up with it today, it will probably not be fixed. All future development is in Lightning.

I've debated back and forth whether to post a portable version of 1.0 Beta 1. In some ways, it's just delaying the inevitable for users. It may be better to post a simple tool to copy user's calendars from one to the other, if possible.
