Company uses Cisco Security Agent to defend against malware on their machines. Wanted to play AssaultCube in my offtime on my company laptop using Portable Apps File. CSA blocks AC with the messages:

Posted this to the AssaultCube support, who blames the PAF, citing that the files mentioned are not written by the native app:

of those DLLs are used by the launcher. The newadvsplash.dll is for the splash screen, and System.dll I do believe is a core dll for the launcher itself.
Those files are from the launcher who does all the portableisation work. All Apps from here have these files.
They are written to the temp folder and deleted after you close the application.
The first one is to display the splash screen and the second one is to redirect a variable so the user data is written to your USB drive and not to the local PC.
Looks like your Cisco Security Agent doesn't like it if you write something to the temp folder. There isn't much you or we can do about that. Imho I find it a little overprotective

it may only block things in randomly named folders. I find plausible that cisco is that stupid, but doubtful.
I don't see it as overprotective due to lots of malware hidings its nastiness in their. And some of it is awful. Far better to block it period then to have to mess with fixing the stuff.
You should be able to unblock the exe, but I haven't used the Cisco Security Agent. You may also have a hard time explaining it to IT

I take it back then. Better be overprotective than have the users loose data.
Its just kinda kills the whole portable apps system.

Don't all of the PortableApps from this site have this issue for you on your company laptop ? Should do by the sounds of it !

Doesn't Assault cube use FindProc.dll ?

I just meant to say that CSA doesn't seem to block FindProc.dll, so it must have an issue with the specific individual files instead of writing to the temp folder in general!

@Gringoloco It was the only app that had ever shown that issue.
@Simeon It let me write to the temp folder all the time.
@OliverK I don't know about randomly named folders ... at first I thought you might be onto something, but then I saw some leftover junk from FFx in randomly named folders.
I posted to the SF forum forever ago, so I decided to install the current version (1.0.4) from PAC in a different location. It worked without issue. I checked the old version number; it was the same! Odd, so I decided to run my old installation, and it ran without issue.
I swear, it was reproducible! The only thing I can figure is that they must have changed the CSA rules somehow.
that or the definitions were updated. I'm glad you mentioned about the random junk not being it, I'll remember that for next time. Still a good guess I guess, but who knows :?. Glad its fixed for you
