Trillian Astra

Hi folks,

I was just wondering how I can alter Trillian Astra to be able to work WITH THE INSTALLER.

I have made it so that it is portable and can go anywhere and do anything with it, but I can't work it into the installer to make it installable to wherever needed and for anyone to use so that it can be easily updated.

Is there anyone that is capable of assisting me in this way to get it into the installer?

I've tried using the installer and it told me I needed to create the files, so I did, but I can't get the configuration correct to be able to use the installer to create the app for download and all.

Yes, I'm new to using the installer, and I ran through the steps that it says to take, but I can't see how to use the configs to create the installer since I've already made it portable.

If anyone has any idea, don't hesitate to reply here or email me if you would like a copy of the Zipped up file so you can work on it.

Hope someone can help, because all the portable Apps I see on this site for Chat Programs such as MSN and all, they only say they do MSN, Yahoo, and AOL. Where as Trillian does them all.

It is free, but you can also do what I did and purchase a lisence for your own Astra Username. But I have NOT included my personal profile in the build, so it is not the Pofessional version with super functionality, only the normal options and functions.

Also, ONE thing that does NEED to be altered in the program is how to set it to use Skype Portable, because it doesn't seem to know that Skype is there.

If anyone is able to also find this little issue and fix it, then it would make Trillian FULLY portable and functional.

I use Trillian and Skype both on a USB Stick, and they both work and I use Trillian wherever I go and it always works. My profile keeps logs of all conversations, so I'm alway just appending to the longs and not losing parts of conversations as some people do when they switch PCs and use another PCs MSN or Windows Live, even Yahoo or AOL, Google Talk, ICQ, Twitter, and a raft of others including Skype.

It really is the BEST Internet Chat program around, and a full lisence isn't very expensive. I bought mine a while ago, and I believe that they are only charging $10* at the moment, or somethng similar (* depending on exchange rates), some special I think.

Anyhow, I would really appreciate some help to get it working properly with Skype Portable and also integrated with the installer.

Sincerely,
Andrew.

Pidgin does pretty much most

Pidgin does a bunch of IM's as well. (Everything Trillian can and a couple more)

The installer requires you to have the app in PortableApps.com Format 1.0
Here's the specifications.

Well.

Well, I'll take a look at Pidgin and see if it's better or worse or about the same and let you know the pros and cons.

I tried to put the application in that format by using that page, but I can't get it to work. That's why I was posting on here.

I thought that people would at least have read what I said before saying what you said and telling me to use what I said i used.

I'll peek at Pidgin and let you know.

Thanks.

Tell you what, if you have Pidgin installed, please list what it can use. I'll list Trillian, because I don't want to install pidgin on this PC. I'd appreciate it, thanks.

Trillian: - Astra - MSN -

Trillian:
- Astra
- MSN
- Yahoo
- MySpace
- Facebook
- Skype
- ICQ
- POP3
- IMAP
- AOL
- Jabber/XMPP
- GoogleTalk
- Bonjour
- IRC
- Twitter

So there is a lot that it is capable of connecting to.

I can even connect it to other ones as well, but I'd have to write the connections for it myself.

It is MultiLingual, but I only have English Installed because it's on a small 4 Gb USB Stick.

Also, with Trillian I have NEVER had any issues with it losing any records, it's History Filters are very very nice.

I've NEVER been hacked through it, nor has anyone attempted to.

It is the BEST I have found out there to this date.

Have you tried looking at the

Have you tried looking at the documentation for the portableapps.com installer? Otherwise, you'll have to put together a method to extract it (if its a MSI)

Why is it that EVERYONE asks

Why is it that EVERYONE asks that?

The documentation was provided to me just before, and even in reply to that comment I askde why they gave me a link to the documentation that I SAID that I had already read?

As for using an MSI, I wouldn't EVER touch such a thing.

I Loathe Microsoft, but so many people use Windows that I do have to on some PCs as well. But I use many applications that are Unix, or cross-platform, and for Windows I use Portable Apps so that I can use non-Microsoft specific applications that I know and trust and are personalised for me to use so I have the same settings and configurations all the time.

that's why I made Trillian Portable, but I would like assistance in finishing it by..

1 - Making it work with SkypePortable.
2 - Packaging it into a PortableInstaller.

getting those 2 things done will allow more people to be happier with Astra. It's something that can be easily done, but it needs someone who can do it easily, because I can't even do it a hard way.

It requires to be Portable Installer because that should configure it so that it will work within it's own directory and also be able to do everything else it needs to without reverting to using full paths, which is the only issue I have with it at times.

Eveything else I have set it to is relative to make it portable.

okay, because trillian is

okay, because trillian is freeware you'll need to download the file from trillian then extract it to the app directory.

As far the the rip on me recommending the documentation, that what we do. If we can't understand it then we ask.

What aren't you understanding?
