I like how they describe the optical media as "self-burning". Really!? That's amazing! It burns itself, no software needed!
As long as it's not self-combusting.

The drives are described as such, not the media. Here is the full paragraph:
ComputerWorld articleThe Defender Optical is a self-encrypting, self-burning line of CD-R, DVD-r, DVD+R and Blu-ray disk drives that offer password authentication, an integrated password recovery option and are FIPS 140-2 Level 1 validated. The discs have a suggested retail price of $2.10 for CD, $2.50 for DVD and $7.50 for Blu-ray.
Still, I wonder what that means. Obviously it takes special discs that cost about ten times what I pay for DVD+R discs (by the hundred, anyway).
By self-burning, I would imagine that the data that is passed to the burner is not what is recorded, but rather something else that can only be decoded with special software. Maybe it also means that the recorder has a USB port on it, and the special flash drives can be plugged in, and the thing burns what's on the flash drive?
