why are WE required to make a backup of our profile every time that we go to upgrade to a more recent version...WHY CANT YOU CODE THE INSTALLER TO DO SO??!!!! as im a fan and i use mine at school, and i just now, after trying to install an update...found out i NOW HAVE TO REINSTALL MY 70+ EXTENSSIONS BECAUSE THE INSTALLER DOESNT DO IT ITSELF...AND I HAVE PRECIOUS LITTLE TO NO TIME TO DO SO!...
so please, PLEASE take my rant to heart and code the installer to check to see if a profile exists and if it does, code the installer to COPY IT OVER!
thank you for taking the time to read my rant and feature request and PLEASE CONSIDER IT.
love portable apps, but this is kind of basic, and to me, seems like a common sence issue... not to sound rude, but thats what it seems to me.

I've been using Firefox Portable since the beginning, and for the most part, I haven't had any problems, nor have I had to back up my profile except maybe once.
If you are referring to the support page here
https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#upgrading
the wording may be a bit unclear, but what it's saying is if you are upgrading from a recent version, you just need to install over it and the settings are preserved, which has been my experience.
But if you are upgrading from a much older version (from back in the day when it was called "Portable Firefox" instead of "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition"), THEN you need to back up your profile.
Granted, I don't have 70+ extensions either, because I've found that too many tends to slow things down, but if you are using all of them, I can see how you'd like to retain them.
I just this moment upgraded from 3.5.9 to 3.6.3, to test this, and all of my (10) extensions were retained - well, it told me that one was no longer compatible with 3.6.3, but the rest were fine.
I haven't seen many recent posts complaining about this issue, I'd be curious to see if anyone else is missing extensions after updating.
P.S. I understand that you are feeling frustrated, but really there is no need to shout. Most people here are willing to help, but tend to be turned off by the all caps thing.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
if you are going to a new version, "just in case". It is not required, and with my also nearly as many extensions, it's a sound one as well since you may or may not know if the extensions you like work well enough or at all with your new ff. That's the way firefox works, which is carried over to the portable version.
And like the previous poster said, upgrades (main or portable) do install over the old version. And I also don't recall backups being a required part of the updating. And I've never had to reinstall extensions, besides the ones that were not up to date for the newer firefox version. But again, that's part of regular firefox updating. And those were just disabled, not uninstalled.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
You're not. The installer preserves your profile on install. There is nothing to be included in the Data directory in any of the Firefox Portable installers. So, you upgrade it right in place. Every single app here at PortableApps.com works this way and has worked this way since we first introduced the installer.
We have no open bug reports at all about any issues with profiles being lost on upgrades, so it is something specific to your install. If you'd like to give us details (without the yelling) that would help.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
