Hello,
There's probably an answer to this somewhere but my search didn't give me
an exact solution. Everything works OK except when I try to load a website
from a program and FirefoxPortable is closed in XP on the harddrive. A Firefox
appears with only default settings. The other Firefox is OK if loaded
first.
I cannot set FirefoxPortable as default browser in XP custom access/defaults
because it isn't listed, but it is the default browser according to Firefox
Portable options.
FirefoxPortable is the only Firefox on the HD. Everything works OK if FirefoX
Portable is running at the time.
Something is messed up somewhere and I just noticed it recently. I suspect
it is launching Firefox.exe instead of Firefoxportable.exe because of some
old installation info in XP in this circumstance. I disabled the browsers
listed in XP access/defaults, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox (not
portable) but the FirefoxPortable default browser setting in options will
not kick in for this one circumstance.
What's the best way to set Firefox regarding this.
Thanks,
Patrick
Run Firefox Portable.
Tools>Options>Advanced
Under "System Defaults" at the bottom, there will be a setting for default browser. Hit "Check Now". A window should pop up and it should say: "Firefox is not currently set as your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?"
From here you can click "Yes".
Let me know if it worked
Yes, that is where the option is to make it the default browser in
the FirefoxPortable program itself. Tried that several times. It's
this one circumstance...it just isn't picking up the right profile
when the default setting kicks in for the browser.
Thanks,
Patrick
that wont work.
As someone said here, this will set firefox.exe as your default browser and not the Launcher (FirefoxPortable.exe), so you are using firefox without portabalisation and it will leave your bookmarks etc on the local PC.

This is currently unsupported. If you attempt it within Firefox, you set the copy of Firefox inside Firefox Portable as the default and will wind up using a profile on the local PC.

Well it runs the same way on the flash as on the HD so far so
the right profile is in the portable directory. Is there a way to
resolve this for this one circumstance ?
Another reinstall of some type ?
Perhaps let XP add/remove install it so it shows up in the
custom access/default screen instead of the install done by the
Portable Menu. I just wanted to run the portable version.
This is the only thing I found that is a little fishy.
What's your best advise then ?
Thanks,
Patrick
