What's happened?
There used to be new applications being posted all the time, but in the last month, hardly anything at all.
Is this website slowly being closed down?

Exactly what is it that you are looking for? In the past month I personally have launched over a dozen programs, maybe a little more specifics as to what you are wanting would be helpful?

We are not closed!
Its just that a couple updates have been put on hold till the new 2.0 Suite/Launcher/Updater relaunch is released.

Thank goodness.
I love Portableapps.
Sorry, I got a bit worried that's all. It seemed like there was a new app appearing all the time, but in the last month it's very quiet , so I got worried

The floodgates will be opening shortly...
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
That flood, along with 2.0 auto-updating millions of apps, will bring down SF for a bit. I look forward to seeing it.
What's SF?
And what do you mean exactly by, "2.0 auto-updating millions of apps"
SF is SourceForge, their host.
And by millions, he means up to a few dozen (per person).
And by auto-updating, he means people will have an updater in the new Platform menu which will be able to find and install updates automatically.
And all those people who've been slacking and failed to keep all the "little apps" up-to-date will update simultaneously, in glorious union and accord. There will be much rejoicing and merriment, and lo SF will be brought to it's knees.
Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration. Amusing thought though.
Exaggeration? Understatement! (Especially about the much rejoicing and merriment.)

I think the PortableApps Menu 2 is probably the most eagerly awaited app of the decade, the update feature alone will bring about a new era of peace and prosperity. I think it will be met with great enthusiasm (not exaggeration).
It's going to be met with much disdain on my part, because I don't use it. In the meantime, the public is being denied official app updates, to include serious security updates.

I couldn't care less either as I don't use it but, for many it's the entry point into PortableApps. It seems to be of value to new and novice users, which is probably a large percentage of the PA.c audience. Therefore, encouraging and responding to that audience is highly beneficial to the PortableApps community.
John and co. are usually pretty good about keeping on top of critical app updates. I would argue, yet again, that this just highlights how ineffectual forums are for keeping tabs on this kind of thing. Even if you posted this to the "outdated apps" thread, it would be easy for it to get lost in the shuffle.
I feel your pain, but I also respect that these guys are doing this in their spare time and without any kind financial incentive (at least not from me). I know as a long-standing member of the community you understand this.
Oh well, I await updates patiently.
Requests for updates to official apps should be posted on the Outdated Official Apps thread:
https://portableapps.com/node/19705
You will see that Foxit is currently being updated to 3.3, and if you follow the link, you will see it was posted on May 5th, only one day after it was released by Foxit.
You will also see that John was consulting with our developer prapper the day it was posted.
If you are eager for this to progress to the release stage, you should download the development test version and post your comment and any found bugs on that thread:

The Foxit software was only an example. I have it installed on all my machines so I don't rely on PortableApps to update it, but other people might. The overall point is, there has to be a bunch of apps being held up from release by a piece of software some people don't use.

They're waiting on the 2.0 installer and 2.0 format, not the platform. That way we don't have to re-release them a week later to keep them in sync.

C'mon, now, you don't use the platform, and the one example that you use to demonstrate neglect is actually being actively developed in a very timely manner, besides the fact that you don't use the portable version?
If you have a valid complaint about updating software, give a valid example that isn't already being addressed in the Outdated Official Apps!
To John's point, though, I would truly love to see the final release of the 2.0 Format and 2.0 Installer, as well as the PortableApps Launcher 2.0 being developed by Chris. It should make updating and creating apps much easier.

If you read my posts, I never said "neglect". I know they're being worked on, just being held back from release.
John's post above answered why.

I was only disagreeing with you when you said "maybe a slight exaggeration." I think you WERE understating, you weren't exaggerating. I think 2.0 of the platform will be "the app of the decade" and for the same reason you stated, the updater.
To comment on the discussion elsewhere on this thread, I don't use the the Menu as my main menu, I use Appetizer with about a dozen apps, one of them being the PortableApps menu. My unlocked-down partition of my HDD has about 100 portable apps, and the PortableApps platform automatically finds all of them, including the new ones (and also drops any deleted ones) without any action on my part. In effect, I use the Portableapps Platform for everything but my most used programs. I know I can pin favourites on the new menu, (and do) but I like the small always-on-top Appetizer, with big icons. Just me.
Can't wait for 2.0, though.

Have you tried Cylog Toolbox? Just curious.
Going to now. Thanks!

Portableapps will have its own package management like apt-get? Or maybe more like Slackroll, or such? That's great. Portableapps runs great under wine in Linux. It will be interesting to see if this new feature will too.
when?
what is the proper link to follow this development?
what is the link for the manual to use all these features i didn't know about?
why can't i capitalize the first letters of my sentences, and the i's?
why am I asking stupid questions when the answers are merely a search away?

I don't know about anyone else, but in my world you guys rock. Everyone i know is amazed by the quality of this website. It's especially gratifying when i stick my 16 gig usb into someone's computer and i can do everything they can do and much more all from the platform. I tell everyone about this place and encourage donations to help keep this going. Well I look forward to seeing the floodgates opened and the ppl i deal with will donate even more money. You guys do excellent work and i look forward to what is going to happen.
I get kinda sad because every day I come to this website but notice not a single new app has been released for 1 month.
When will this "floodgate" of new apps be released?
I know... patience is a virtue, right?
As has been stated by JTH, they are waiting until version 2 of the format spec and installer are ready, since the intention is to migrate most / all apps to use it once it is done, and they would just end up doubling up on the release for little benefit if they did them all now.
I suspect that probably also includes the launcher, though that's not been explicitly stated so far as I've seen.
That new Version 2.0 is gonna be wonderful.
THANK YOU very much from a BIG fan in Atlanta, GA.

I was wondering about missing updates as well - now I know why there are not updates at the moment.
Somebody asked for examples: Miranda is one of them. There are not updates on portable apps in the last weeks, even though there are at least three "newer" version of the non-portable application. I can live with the one I have ;-).
I understand, that the developpers of portable apps wait until the new version is available in order to avoid double work. So let's give them the time they need in order to release a stable new version soon.
Good luck and thank you for all the wonderful portable apps. I love them very much.
I was wondering what was up too. A little news blurb on the main page to keep people from panicking would be nice. I don't use the launcher either. I update all my apps by hand, baby! And now for something completely different:
When are we going to get a FOSS portable torrent program? I love me some Deluge, but it's a bummer there's no portable Deluge.

I AGREE!!!
Many people including myself visit this website everyday and notice NO ACTIVITY for over 1 month and conclude this website and this project is FINISHED!
Please post an UPDATE on front website
Quite right. I updated the announcement sitewide to clue people in

Just saw the message on Twitter! Looking forward to the next few days!

Excellent John, because many people I and other recommend to visit here, may get confused when they see no activity happening.
STAY TUNED: After a month of hard behind-the-scenes work, the flood of new releases and new features on the road to 2.0 starts THIS WEEK!
Good stuff
I have noticed that message on the front page, "...starting this week" has been saying that for WEEKS
one, it showed up this week (or changed to that this week)
two, the week isn't over yet. Though, indeed it is very close

Having actually been through several real floods, you have to understand that the beginning of a flood is almost unnoticeable. It's not until you get about a third of the way into it that you can even suspect that it will really flood, and then you start moving your furniture to the top floor. Of course, if the water then recedes before flood stage, you do get a little pissed off because of the effort and anticipation, but whaddayagonnado?
As for "weeks" - I myself am only weeks old.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
And I for one am anxiously waiting!! Maybe by Saturday? Please? (heh...I´ve been checking in several times a day since I saw that on the top of the page)
Isn't it exciting! The suspense is killing me!
