I was hoping to get some opinions of the Portable OpenOffice.org splash screen. What it's supposed to do is be briefly visible and then fade into the OO.o splash screen. It's there because on a slower drive, the OO.o splash takes a bit to come up. With the Portable OO.o 2.0.1 release, though, I think I left the timing a bit long as on a good USB thumbdrive, you may not see the standard OO.o splash (which I don't want to have happen). If I set it a bit shorter, there may be a pause between the two, though.
So, my question is, how does the current Portable OO.o feel to you? Do you see the standard OO.o splash after it? What kind of drive are you running on?
Thanks for the feedback!
Regards,
John
Hi john,
I've tested the app both from my HDD as my sandisk cruzer (wich is not rumored for its r/w speed...) and must say I think it is currently allright. On my pc the screens flow one into another and from the stick there is a little pause between the two screens. So I think you are there allready.
Greetings.

i personally don't like the splash screen, as it is rather jerky on the systems i've tried it on.
an option to remove it would be appreciated.
Check the INI and the readme in the PortableOpenOfficeCode directory for details. I never include a splash without an option to remove it.
Incidentally, what systems was it jerky on? (OS, processor) And is the splash for Portable Firefox jerky as well?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I run OOo on the local hard drive, i have disabled JRE, and OOo starts up so fast I wait for the splash screen to go away!
I checked Readme.txt, PortableOpenOffice.ini, and PortableOpenOffice.nsi how do i disable or adjust the splash screen?
Setting DisableSplashScreen=true does nothing.
I have the same issue with the other portable apps. It doesnt really bother, i would just like it documented better. Thanks.
Move PortableX.ini into PortableX/

ok i see PortableOpenOffice.exe and PortableOpenOffice.ini need to be in the same folder thank you.
timing seems to be OK, OO has always taken a while to load and with the two splash screens it gives the impression that it's taking even longer, I personally don;t mind and I really wanted to say I absolutely love the smooth splash screens on the products. It makes me feel different and special, that I really am using the best piece of software. It's small it's fast and it's portable but still can fit in a really neat looking splash screen, good work.
