With a lot of apps getting out of date with the latest version
may mean only a feature or two missing or some bug fixed (or new
bug introduced.) Mostly not crucially important.
Seems that ClamWin should be up to date regardless if a new portable apps
format or launcher is ready.
Am I wrong to not want to rely on portable ClamWin?
It is so nice to have it on USB and go from computer to computer feeling fairly
sure I am scanning for virii with a clean device.
I'm looking at other alternative portable viru scanners, really hope I don't
need to leave this one behind.
There are no issues with running 0.95.3. It's not .8 difference. It's one release (0.96) and a quick bugfix (0.96.1). You're still getting current definitions with 0.95.3. 0.96.1's big difference was some speed improvements. 0.96 added some heuristic improvements and some bytecode improvements, but I don't think the definitions make use of it yet. Either way, the release is already done and just waiting on finalization of the 2.0 installer (so it can be packaged for release), which is happening later tonight, so the app should be updated tomorrow.

i have heard the same issues wiht a distro that i try and support even though active delvelopment is dead. i myself find it annoying that my linux GUI frontend thinks i am runnning 0.96.0 when i have 096.1 installed.
John is right though.
After upgrading Clamwin, I noticed that there's a tiny bytecode signature file along with main and daily.
SWAG
That's one of the new features in 0.61.x. It isn't quite done or used yet (which is why there wasn't a hurry to upgrade to 0.61) but it does offer some cool future possibilities.
