I don't mean this critically, just curiously. Why do we (as a community, I don't actually develop any portable apps) bother making PortableApps versions of apps that are inherently portable? I know that some require to be cleaned up after, and the OP talked about testing PAL, but I'm curious what others think.
Personally, I almost always take the PA version if available, for the "officialness," I guess, and of course if the app stays around, it would update with the updater(can't wait.) However, I often use beta versions, which don't always stick around, and presumably won't be updated with the updater. Any thoughts?

The biggest reasons are that it then becomes easily usable with the PortableApps.com Platform, gives users confidence that it is portable, and because it's then in the PortableApps.com Format, meaning data backup is very easy and consistent between applications.
