I have installed many applications on my portable apps, but I can't install Java Portable: the icon never shows up and neither openoffice, nor Firefox say that it's installed. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Java Portable has no Icon. If installed to the CommonFiles folder, it is enabled in Openoffice for the things that use Java (database, wizards...). Firefox Portable cant use Java portable as it reads the java location from the registry. Some Apps that require Java are built to use it. And then there is the Java portable launcher so you can launch jar files easier.
Hope that helps.
Oh and hi here at PortableApps.com

While we're talking about Java Portable, is there a way to change Java's settings?

Java has no settings. Only apps written in Java, or the applet subsystem, which doesn't work as the browser plug-in doesn't, have settings as far as I'm aware.

If you're on a Windows machine and install Java locally, a Control Panel applet gets put in to change Java's settings (such as logging, auto-update settings, JAR compression, etc)

Explore your PA drive go to POrtableApps.com/CommonFiles/Java/Bin Double click to execute the javacpl file (should show as an executable and 58kb)this will bring up the windows you are looking for.

I'm not even sure if that's portable.
not sure either BUT that is the feature he looking for and that is where it is located ????

Probably, but considering Java Portable doesn't have a launcher, I'll bet a lot of money I don't have that it's not portable
How much money (that you don't have) are you willing to bet? lol the program launches not sure what it does after that but might be interesting to play with and see??

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for.
So, it is possible to change Java's options.
But, what impact does this have on the system? Do the settings get stored on the system or do they remain on the drive?

When I ran and viewed the file it saved 4 entries to my local machine(java log files), it also recognized the newer version of Java on my computer and the older one on my PA drive. I cruised through the settings BUT to be honest saw nothing I really wanted to change. It did pick up the java applets I allowed for my FFP and image if I cleaned those then it would do so only on my PA Drive.
So that being said what exactly are yuo trying to change on it? Frankly I can't imagine what would you tweak?
