Release Notes:
Pre-Release 1 (2010-06-11): Initial release
Notes:
- This is just a quick test before we go release as it's a new version. Please test with multiple drive letters and report back ANY issues you might have with it.
- This is updated from Songbird Portable 1.7.2 PR1 which had a library issue in Songbird itself.
Due to the problem with the library issue in Songbird 1.7.2, I uninstalled the Songbird Portable 1.7.2 PR1 version and reinstalled Songbird 1.4.3. I upgraded from 1.4.3 to the Songbird Portable 1.7.3 PR1, and the library issue did not exist.
1) The compatibility of the add-ons used in Songbird 1.4.3 is broken when upgrading to Songbird 1.7.3. It should be warned to the user that upon upgrading to the new version, the user will have to upgrade their add-ons online before they can be of use. This includes the basic add-ons of Windows Media Playback, Quicktime playback, and CD Rip support.
2) The Now Playing add-on, which should be integrated into Songbird's core, is not yet available without making a hack of the add-on and setting Songbird to not check the component validity. Until this add-on is updated (which should be soon), I would not recommend releasing this version to the public outside of the development area.
Hope that helps! Thanks for your work on this, Gizmokid2005.
The only things in life we regret are the risks we didn't take.
Everything upgrades fine for me, assuming an update is available...there's nothing that we can do to change that. When I installed 1.7.2 over 1.4.3 it updated what it could, and then when I upgraded from 1.7.2 to 1.7.3 it found more and I've had a few updates since I installed today.
As for the Now Playing List add-on, it's a popular add-on, but Songbird isn't designed to be like WMP with a now playing list like that, which is why it's not part of the core and no reason to hold back a release.
I did a clean install and transferred playlists from 1.4.3. Works without base application issues. Only potential issue are incompatible extensions so recommend adding a note to check for extensions compatibility before upgrading.

Any other reports from anyone? Over 110 downloads of 1.7.x, 50 of 1.7.3 alone. I'd like to get this out asap if there are no issues.
No issues, sorry about delay life happening way to fast this week

Much appreciated!
I installed 1.4.3 & 1.7.3 with a 2.36gb database using 2 different computers. One has xp home service pack 2,and the other win7 with full administrative rights on both. One install i did using the installers and the other was through the songbird interface. The only issues i detected was that about 1/2 of the old extensions are not compatible with 1.7.3. I'm sure that once 1.7.3 is officially released, the extensions will be updated accordingly. The integration of the database was smooth and trouble free with both methods of the installation on my main portable platform and the dedicated usb drive i use for testing. As far as i can tell,1.7.3 does not have any bugs. The only issues that can arise is if quick time is not installed or updated on the host computer. In this case, simply disabling it will fix the problem. The program does not leave any junk behind, there are no memory issues, and methods of installing are irrelevant since it works no matter how you go about installing and integrating the interface and your database. I hope this report helps and i will update posts as issues arise. Well done!
Thanks for the feedback! I know that Songbird has been working on memory usage in their build lately and they've seemed to gotten it down a bit, and it also seems like they've managed to increase speed at least a decent amount.
Let me know if you have any issues with it.
Ever since i've been working with these apps, songbird takes a long time to initially load. this is most likely due to connectivity issues between the host computer and the app. Songbird is a complex program and it's a remarkable achievement to make this portable. For example i have an offline work computer that's 8 years old and songbird loads faster on it than on my newer one. based upon my observations i have concluded that because my offline computer is basically stripped down to just it's operating system,i have no other processes that hinder the loading of songbird. If you bring up your task manager and look at the songbird 32* process, you will notice that it takes up ram at about 15,000kb with a final ram load of approx 98,000kb. after that, the extensions take up a few more thousand but not much more. When combined with the other processes,it becomes understandable why songbird takes forever to load. (songbird is a big but beautiful program) anyway once it's going,it becomes the "Mtv" of my platform. (that's how good it is!) Well i hope these observations help you. I'm gonna go rock out now
Yep! Its just a big app, and they're working on it, but there's not a whole lot more than can be done. Just get a cup of coffee while it launches
Made the upgrade from 1.4.x to 1.7.2 (which was borked as part of the official 1.7.2 release at getsongbird.com), and then to 1.7.3 and so far I haven't run into any problems other than the usual run-of-the-mill breaking of add-ons that need to be updated.
Much appreciated! Thanks for the feedback!
