Any open source?

Do you know a good one that's open source?

IT'S NOT A PORTABLE

Truedownloader is not portable (writes to registry)
NetAnt is not portable (writes to registry)

You could just ...

...use Reg Rapper, to take care of the registry entries. It would then be portable.

You mean export entries in

You mean export entries in the registry of that program to the *.reg file? It's a bad idea! I dont't like this! I need a real portable download manager! Does it exists?

Huh...

Why exactly is this a bad idea. I created Registry Rapper, to do all of it for you, you won't need to do anyhting.

I use this system on at least 20 Apps I use. True, they are not truelly portable, but until all developers of all programs understand why portability is important, you will always run into this problem. RegRapper is a fix for that problem.

I just don;t understand why you do not "like" it? Please explain.

Huh...

I don't like it, because i'm seeking for the real portable program!

I have an idea!!!:
We all need a special program, that will be grab all files and registry entries to a special zipped file when the other program installing on your computer. And generate in the end of process of installation start exe file. When this generated exe file starts it feeds all these grabbed files (in zipped folder) to our program! But it's very hard to write this program! Who can do this?

Sorry 4 my english.
Russia for ever! In our country the best democracy! The Real free country! Arrive to us and be convinced if do not trust! Who has arrived to Russia any more does not wish to leave back!

True the webmaster of portablefreeware has tested it and reject it, because it Writes settings to registry.
But you may be able to use it with some funcionnality

How about someone making Free Download Manager from http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ portable. It walks right through a Microsoft ISA proxy Smile

WebDownloader

I would like to recommend this little prog from a programmer in Portugal:
http://www.webxpace.net/software/#Downldr

Although not opensource, it's free and the author makes a lot of efforts to implement users' suggestions rapidly. He made particular efforts to have this prog truly portable, also with regards to the paths where to save downloaded files (option to set these as relative paths), very important when used with a USB-stick on ever changing drive-letters.

Program has a small footprint and works really fast. Has also an option to use proxies, with or without authentication.

For me, this is the best portable download software Smile

Cheers
Chris

Web Downloader

I got the site, but something was wonky with the download. Did a search & found this. States that Web Downloader is now Offline Explorer. OE has a setup .exe and at first glance doesn't look free.
However I did find another DL location for WD here. This is self extracting zip with no install.
Hope this helps.

The downTHEMall! extension

The downTHEMall! extension for Firefox is great, but Firefox has to be open. I don't know if it supports mms:// or rstp://. The save directory can be changed as drive letter changes, but as far as I know, it will only be in the root directory of the removable drive (placing the directory inside chrome:// will fix drive letter problems). It can make up to 10 connections per download, which increases speed tremendously, though.

Vintage!
