Google Chrome Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Comments

I think 5.x is the stable branch and 6.x is the development branch with new features but probably a bit unstable.

Thanks Simeon,

the dev. built being unstable it one thing, but it still should show download of v6 rather than v5 ;-)... that's what I was asking about

Cheers!

Hi

I live in a country that is currently going through a rather spastic spat with Google over possibly unpaid taxes that has resulted in a number of google services being blocked at the IP level. This includes dl.google.com which is I think where the Chrome Portable installer tries (and fails for me) to connect to upon installing.

I dont expect these apps to be "idiot-government"-proof and this certainly is not the forum for such a discussion. I would however, like to know whether there is an alternative source to download the necessary Chrome package from Google to complete the installation? ie within google but not from dl.google.com.

As this is unlikely if I was to have someone install Chrome Portable in another country, zip it up and send it over to me can I assume that I can just copy the App folder over my old one and leave the Data folder alone? I foolishly began the installation which seems to have deleted part of Chrome before connecting to Google to download the new package so now have an unusable Chrome.

Thanks!
