oh wow, 3.7 is so much less
oh wow, 3.7 is so much less CPU intensive and loads pages much faster! This is perfect for my everyday use! bye bye 3.6!
Safe and easy way to update from 3.6
Obviously, the advice to not update 3.6.x is sound, since you don't want to create problems. But, especially since 3.7 does bookmarks differently, and you want to try the browser with all your authenticated sessions and bookmarks (using the address bar to get to them), starting from scratch isn't the best solution.
Here's what I do, and it would be cool if the installer would automate this, as an option at least. I call it a clone upgrade.
First I start the installer to see where it wants to put the Firefox test version -- in this case, FirefoxPortableNightly. I then make a copy of FirefoxPortable (the whole folder) and rename the copy to FirefoxPortableNightly. Then, I continue the installer, it sees the old version, and performs the upgrade. So now I have Firefox 3.6.4 (it updated automatically, without asking) with my profile, as well as the new one, also with my profile.
