Just a suggestion:
For future versions it would be nice to have the installer preserve /App/LAME and /App/FFMpeg so I don't have to reinstall them after I upgrade.

I just had it download lame_enc.dll to the folder AudacityPortable folder, and it's stayed there through three or four upgrades.
However, the latest release of Audacity "forgets" that it has access to the DLL every time you save a file, and it starts looking for it in the folder of the last media file you opened... *facepalm*
The latest version is using the new Launcher that Chris developed.
Now, in the launcher.ini file, there are two default folders that it searches for those libraries.
If you follow John's instructions, and put the libraries in these folders, it doesn't "forget" where they are. Unfortunately, these same default folders are getting overwritten during upgrades.
If you had saved your LAME and FFMPEG into different folders than the default (likely, since these default folders are a new addition) then it's likely that they wouldn't be deleted during upgrade.

Mine doesn't forget the location of the MP3 dll.
But it deleted it on install and Language switching doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone else have problems with this?

My flash drive had Audacity Portable 1.3.12 Rev 2 plus the LAME and FFMpeg options.
After I ran the installer to re-install 1.3.12 Rev 2 on my flash drive I found that the App\LAME and App\FFMpeg folders now only have the readme files in them!
I am using Windows 7 (64-bit)
Basically what is wrong is that 'installer.ini' is missing.
If it would exist, it could have a setting to preserve the specific folder(s)!

Good call.
@JTH: can we fix the installer.ini file to preserve the LAME and FFMPEG folders?

I've fixed this in 1.3.12 Rev 3. Even though most users have already upgraded, some users occasionally reinstall and I want to ensure they don't lose their plugins.
