I have a problem with audio skipping. This is only on one computer , it works fine on others. I have adjusted the ms settings in the codec settings but that does help.
any ideas?

Or using a budget processor like a Celeron with a small L2 cache.
You didn't say what version you are using. I started having a similar problem with audio skipping when I updated to 1.1.0. I had not experienced it previously. Combined with the "rebuilding font cache" issue, I rolled back to 1.0.5 and, Voila, problem solved. Oh, I'm running a dual core processor with lots of L2 cache.

What is it that you play? (DVD? AVI? Any?) I have to confess I haven't actually updated my version of VLC but I'd be curious to try now to see if I have the same issue.
Other thing that springs to mind is conflicting software like anti-virus.
I just updated to 1.1.0 about 3 days ago. Yesterday I was trying to view an AVI file and found that the audio skipping was way too annoying. Since I was already annoyed about the 'rebuilding font cache' issue that is new with 1.1.0, I rolled back to 1.0.5. The AVI file played smoothly without the frequent audio lapses. I should also mention that with 1.1.0, there seemed to be an audio synch problem, the sound didn't match the video, particularly voices. Of course, that could have been caused by a bad AVI rip, but, with ver 1.0.5 the sound was in synch! I've found that anti-virus software tends to slow the startup and load times, until I modified active protection. I can't see that AV software would effect audio but not video.

I am trying to run DVD on a brand new Dell Optiplex GX620 with Pentium 4 and large swap file. I went back to 1.05 and it still skips in audio.
It runs fine in another computer that is older.
