Not going to happen due to Keepass 2.x being based in .NET (and therefore isn't portable.)

I think someone might have already done the legwork. [Link removed, that's a site with lots of illegal stuff - mod Chris] . I copied the folder to my "PortableApps" one on my ThumbDrive. Icon appears with my other apps, tried it and it works fine.

Scaned & Uploaded

Ok I scanned each file separately, compressed into .rar archive, and then uploaded.

I hope that is acceptable.

Why not just get it from the

Why not just get it from the official site? They claim its portable already, with the exception of needing .NET 2.0 or greater installed.

2.x Not Necessarily Better Than 1.x

Just be clear because there's often confusion, Keepass 2.x is not a higher version of the 1.x series... they are completely separate and distinct development branches of Keepass. Unless you absolutely need some of the advanced features of the 2.x branch (apparently only made possible with the .NET platform) then there is absolutely no reason to use version 2.x over 1.x.

1.x is a stable development branch and has most of the features that most everyday users would/should need.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

When you copy the folder in the compressed archive to your PortableApps folder on your removable drive; KeePass 2.12 will show up with the rest of your PortableApps shortcuts.

Features...

Have a look at the KeePass 1 and 2 comparison. IMO most of the new features aren't useful for a portable user. Of those that would be, none are essential.

These features could be integrated into a non-.Net version but unfortunately the author has expressed a definite preference for .Net.

Still someone could always fork it. eg. KeepassX.

If Really Needed

If you really need it in PortableApps.com Format, and you don't care that it requires .NET and won't ever be official because of this, then I'm willing to quickly whip up a release for you.

Would be nice to have a PortableApp format installer. What would be the difference though; between PA format and just extracting the folder from the .rar?

Auto-Detection For One

For one, the installer would autodetect the platform and install to it, or you could install it from the platform. That way it would be integrated much more easily into the platform.

Also (AFAIK) it would be more cleanly integrated.

Ease of use and cleaner installation sound much better. How will you be going about making it?

Pretty Easy

I'll probably just look at KeePass 1.x Portable to see how it's done, and then I'll add the .NET dependencies in and I'll be set. Should be out tomorrow morning, as an eternal Development Test.

Useful Features 2.x

I find the Synchronization and Custom String Fields to be useful. Also I believe that the sync feature does have some merit to portable users.

Fair Enough

If it works for you then cool. I personally am not comfortable with the dependency on .NET, and 1.x does everything I need it to do.

Everyone's a winner! Smile

Seriously...

Why would you need/want a portable version if it's going to require you to be tied down to your machine? Unless you use multiple computers that you can update to the correct .NET framework, I don't see how this is useful.
