update plugins

Hello,

Checking plugins and extensions for updates on FF 3.6.6
I found that FlashPlayer was "vulnerable" so I clicked
and ended up with an Adobe Download Manager installed in
my Firefox plugins. After restarting several times this
plugin disappeared and I could not find it in any file
directory either. I wonder what that was, a bad download
from Adobe possibly ? The program works OK as well with
the same FlashPlayer.

Everything else updated OK, Java 6.0.20, etc. and everything
otherwise works and looks good.

I need to double check updates in a few days to see if anything
needs to be updated again because I need to do a hard drive
backup shortly and I do not want to miss anything.

Anyone seen this Adobe Download Manager appear and disappear
on there updates with Mozilla ?

Thanks,

normal

yes this is quite normal

in fact to install the flash plugin, you should install it with your local copy of firefox and then copy the files to your stick.

Anyway, the downloader from adobe is apparently kind of replacement for their active-x function they use for IE. So this 'downloader' will be installed first , then this will install the flash on next start, later it will disappear again.

Note that you have installed the flash on your hard drive and you have it not on your stick so far. This will be only if you copy the files from ..system32\macromed\flash to the plugin folder on your stick.

updates from Adobe

Well they eventually appeared however both are called "shockwave"
instead of "shockwave flash" and "adobe flashplayer" as in the past.

might depened on language

setting of the FF itself, dont know, but in the english and german versions I have to hand, the flash is called Shockwave flash, and there might be other plugin called shockwave for director, which is the one commonly called shockwave. The name giving might be confusing and is changing probably due to the fact that adobe did buy those companies who invented those things, so some trade mark issues might be involved.
