Signed
Can we get the installer digitally signed? It displays as Unknown Publisher.
No
The procedure with our releases is to only sign ones that we produce. In this case, DB Software Laboratory has produced the software and the installer, so it doesn't get signed. This is the same with other installers produced by their own development teams, for example Team Viewer, Task Coach, BPBible and Inkscape. If they have a digital signature and wish to sign it themselves, they're welcome to, but our signature won't be used on it.
Additionally, it's our policy to only sign open source releases, not freeware releases which we can't completely guarantee the content of as we can't see the source code.
Re: No
Ah I see. Fair enuff.
Up To Publisher
Digitally signing is up to the publisher. Some publishers do. Some publishers do not. A certificate good for one year (which then expires and must be purchased again) costs between US$180 and US$500 depending on the provider you buy from. Thus, some publishers do not sign code. Most smaller open source projects and freeware providers do not.
Re: Up To Publisher
Wow, I didn't realise it was so expensive. Interesting, thanks for the info.
code-signing
G'day,
I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff, but this site,
