Cant get a connection on Thunderbird Portable at work

I have set up a USB key with portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird so I can use both at home and work and various other laptops I use. When I came to use Firefox at work, I had to put in Manual Proxy Configuration....a HTTP Proxy number and a port number that I found in IE on my work PC. I presume this is something to do with the work firewall.

Anyway, I am now trying to get Thunderbird to work on my work PC but it doesnt seem things to fill in as Firefox. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Blocked

99.9% sure you're being blocked at a network level. Many companies block all POP, IMAP and SMTP traffic other than their own. If your email provider makes alternate ports available, you can try those (you need to find them out from them), but most likely, you simply won't be able to use it at work.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Try this instead

Hi,
I had the same problem, turned out that the McAffee VirusScan was set to allow only IE access to port 80 and Outlook to port 25.

I found that IMAP port 143 worked ok and that port 587 for SMPT works (its the secure SMPT port so use "TSL if available".
Maybe it works, of course if they block all access except the allowed you're hosed
