Unfortunenately,

What you are looking for no longer exists, and I think this link will explain everything else on the issue. Hope that helps.

Is this a joke?

or are you just behind the times? Last time checked IE 6 was sooo 2006(?). Yes, you need a new substitute?

@skitter302

the outlook express for w7 is called now windows live mail and is part of the windows live essentials. You have to download the whole lot I am afraid to get the mail client.

I'm ....

I must be a butt when I say I want Outlook Express or a program the is just like Outlook Express because of the way the family sever works and Thunderbird is not what works well nor does Live Mail, its worse.

Oh, and OE may be 2006 but it works, and when it works you want to use it. Its like a old car.

Unfourtunately (agian),

the time for OE has passed, Microsoft has moved on from the preloaded E-mail client I guess, and I don't think you're going to find any downloads for that vintage E-mail client, or at least any legal downloads anyways.

(I wonder if IE is the next thing to go? Probably not.)

You could try DreamMail instead

DreamMail a) looks VERY similar to Outlook Express, b) is free and c) you can import dbx files without having OE installed. Use it as a replacement for OE if you upgrade to Windows7 - I have used it a few times along with OpenOffice 3 to completely replace Microsoft Office. And it's portable.

Thumbs Up

DreamMail is actually very good. In some ways I like it better than Thunderbird. It looked like development had completely ceased for a while, but when I checked back not too long ago they had a brand new website and things seemed to be moving again. It's definitely worth a look if you absolutely don't want to use Thunderbird.

fine replacement

for outlook express if you just need simple things.
In fact I am currently installing dream mail on some .gov communication equipment where with XP the OE was used before and now with w7 the dream seems to be more transparent to the users then many alternatives.

It has some problems too, but many people do not even notice.
For example it does display western charsets, and probably chinese perfect, but I did no mange it to display properly some east european latin sets as czech etc.

It is one if the mail clients suggesting the use of html formated mails, well one can manage to make the mails text only thought.

It has limited support for encryption, well I mean serious things , not the build in proprietary encryption.
