Create a Splash-Screen BEFORE PortableApps is launching

Hi Everybody,

I'm trying to create a PortableApp-Suite for our little company. I've installed all the Applications we need and now I got a question.

Is it possible to create a "Splash-Screen" for de PortableApps.com Launcher? I'm Looking for a possibility to show a Splash-Screen with our Companys logo (including the PortableApps logo) which ist starting BEFORE the App-Menu starts.

Can someone help me?

Thanks!

Not Supported

We don't support adding a splash to the existing main launcher (the menu comes up right away and adds a progress bar, so it isn't necessary).

If you're going to be using it internally, you're fine creating your own set of apps. But if you're distributing it externally (online, etc), you'll need to recompile it and remove the PortableApps.com branding and exclude apps that can't be repackaged and redistributed by 3rd parties (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, OpenOffice.org, Google Chrome and all of the freeware apps). We have special permission to distribute those apps portably and to package certain ones in suites. That permission does not extend to 3rd parties other than the ability to redistribute our unaltered binary installers for apps and suites.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Easier just to create a theme

I'm assuming that you want the users to see your company logo right in their faces when they start.
Well, you could make a theme that has your company logo as a part of the background. There's a large enough area on the bottom right, below the Help link, that you can use to display a logo.
That way, you don't need to recompile, just distribute your theme with the menu.
There's a good tutorial on making themes here:
http://ptc.kain-planet.de/pap20t-en-1.php

Or even easier - the top right of the menu supports a personal picture, which could be the company logo.

Also, there is the wallpaper switcher function, if you want to make a whole company-themed wallpaper.

Download link down

The downloads page at PTC has been down for some time.
Apparently they have moved servers and there is a problem, they are working to fix it.

Your English is fine by the way.

Oh, yeah

The download link on PTC is broken. :/
You are using the latest version?
I guess you mean 1.6.1. Unfortunately, that's one of the few versions that doesn't support theme switching.
The latest beta version is 2.0 beta 5, and that does support themes.
Hopefully the next official 2.0 version will be out soon; you will want that.

You can still do a simple change to put your logo into the background.
Go to X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\DefaultData\Themes\Default
Edit the "background.png" file in any decent photo editor to add your logo.
(It's a good idea to back up the original, just in case!)

As for selling your - that's a question for John. I don't think it's an issue to add a themed background and give the suite away, if you leave everything else the same, but don't quote me on that.
