Just curious...I don't think it should make a difference though.
If anyone wants to pick up RSSOwl, you are more than welcome to do so, just let me know that you are and I'll send you everything that I have for it.
This app will most likely not go final, as it still uses IE's cache, so long as images/media is enabled in a feed. The author has still, to this date, been unable to locate a fix for this.
As I am also working on a few more side projects, this has been bumped down my priority list a bit.
So, if anyone is interested, just let me know.

Please don't give up. It looks the the RSSOwl 2.0 final was release on 10/24/2009.
It was, but the problem is it still uses IE's internal system cache, which we can't clean up with a launcher, and we can't turn off with the app
Looked on their web site and found the following argument...
-Dportable makes RSSOwl more portable by disabling caches of the embedded browser.
Nope. I know about that switch. In order for the cache to not be used, media (images/video/etc) needs to be disabled, which pretty much defeats the purpose of using the built-in browser anyways...The app should be able to be portable keeping all of its' functionality in place.
Hey Gizmokid, do you mind if I try my hand at portabilizing the latest version of RSSOwl? Or are you still maintaining this app?

The launcher pretty much already took care of everything. The only issue I had, and per the dev there was no way around it because of the way the app was built, is that it uses the IE rendering engine for its feeds, which in turn used the IE cache, which we can't clear/reset/backup.
So, unless he's changed it to use XULRunner, chances are this is still going to be stalled. There is a way to use XULRunner, but he said it's not the best method, on top of doubling the app size, a lot of stuff doesn't work either.
By all means, have at it though

Actually, XULRunner seems to work. Several months ago, I took your RSSOwl launcher and added some code to activate/deactivate XULRunner; I've been using RSSOwl without any issues since. A combination of XULRunner and changing the browser RSSOwl uses seems to be working fairly nicely.
I'll have to see if that's still the case with the latest release, but I'm pretty hopeful.

I know it works, but a lot of the features are missing last I knew, context menus, etc...which is why I never tried to compile it that way and portablize it.
That's weird. I've never had a problem with missing features, and I do use the context menus with regularity.
I'll have to make sure I give this a thorough testing, though, to make sure everything does actually work as expected.
