OK, this is partly due to my own stupidity, but I have a suggestion that for either the backup or the sync, that noobish users can use checkboxes to select the folders they want instead of doing it manually through the rules.
So, heres the situation: So anyways I had a data partition on my computer which i would sync with my external for backup. I also had some stuff on my external which I didnt really need so I just left it there. Fine, right?
Well, first off, I accidentally managed to fill up the entire external by syncing stuff I didn't need. Then I figured out how to do the rules and I cleaned out the drive. But then somehow I screwed up on the rules and managed to overwrite those files that were on the external -- and they were irreplaceable. I tried recovering them for a while and then gave up when I realized that the program had erased them.
It was only AFTER this happened that I noticed the option to send files to the recycle bin.
I wish they had it selected by default or at least bolded, which is another suggestion. But then again, I'm a freaking PEBKAC so I should have seen it.
Well, thanks for listening to my stupidiy.
A big plus on this.
In my case I'm wanting to sync my Documents folder but exclude my Video and Music sub folders from the sync. Now I have created rules to exclude these two folders but what about other folders on the drive with the same name. Most likely in apps as video and music are fairly generally used terms.
A workaround is to specify paths in the rule. Example:
However I can't work out how to use portable variables when specifying a path like this. I've tried:
and
But no luck
Check box idea would be very helpful.

take a look at the rules that aren't working for you horusofoz, certainly @drive@\Documents\Videos ought to be fine.
I am sorry it caused you so much trouble! I like the idea a lot, it won't appear in the next couple of version probably but I will try and get it in as a new feature for say 3.1 as it would simplify things a lot.
