Not PAF, not ready for release

First of all, this isn't in PortableApps.com Format. For an app to be in PortableApps.com Format it requires use of the PortableApps.com Installer among other things; what you've got there isn't a proper PortableApps.com Installer-generated installer. I haven't checked the contents of the package at all. Before posting here, could you please go through and put it all in the proper PortableApps.com Format.

I've also removed your post from the "Apps Ready For Official Release" thread; the rules for submission are very clearly stated there (proper PAF Development Test and tested by the community) and this doesn't fit in with that at all.

It was made using

It was made using PortableApps.com Installer latest version, and also PortableApps.com AppCompactor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator.

The exe was simply renamed in order to avoid having the version number in it and keep a constant download URL. There is also another executable download for the setup version.

Version in URL

Hi Wernight. We recommend against renaming without the version number as it'll cause issues when it goes official. For example, we link to version 4.0 and know its MD5 sum, you update it to 4.1 with a new MD5 sum, but when users download it they'll see the MD5 sum is wrong and think it is infected... and when the auto-updater downloads it to install it, it'll see the MD5 is wrong and think the download is corrupt. Also, without .paf.exe in the filename, the platform won't know it's in PA.c Format and won't let you install it through the Options - Install a New App option. And users will assume it's not a portable installer.

You can create a consistent download URL to give out to other folks and have it redirect to the current version, but we'd need the version in the download URL and filename so we can have them match up with the appropriate MD5s and updater.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Renaming with version number

Renaming with version number has also many issues saddly (like PAD files which advise the download URL to remain constant and don't allow redirection).

The download link now includes version number. Note that there is no public access to old releases.

Wrong download

I thought the same thing you thought. When you click on the link above and the page loads, you are prompted to save a setup file. This is an installer. The portable version is provided in a link on that page. It has the proper formatting as far as I can tell. I think the author needs to either fix the way the page loads so you are prompted to save the portable version, or the link above should point directly to the portable exe.

That said, I agree that it definitely isn't ready to go yet. It hasn't been tested here. I'm sure the program has been tested elsewhere, but it needs to be tested here for portability. If you would like to get it fast-tracked, you can try contacting John Haller directly and see if he can help you out. That doesn't guarantee that the app will be released, but it may speed up the process.

You're right, it seems the automatic redirection does to the wrong URL. Thanks, it's fixed (in 2min).

I downloaded it...

and it looks like you got the basic idea...
I haven't run tried running it, just installed, looked at it, then deleted it (mainly since I have to leave soon).

But there are a few things you still need to fix:

Try posting in this layout (or something similar to it) as it looks better, is more descriptive, and its easy to find the information your looking for.

Try to keep it official-looking.

Don't include 2 help.htmls (even if they're in different languages)--none of the official (and almost all of the unofficial) PAF apps have 2 help files.

Instead of linking to the page to download it (which supplies unneeded information) just link to the download since the homepage will be linked to in the Forum topic under Application.

Other\Source folder is empty?

Try downloading an App (either Atomic tanks portable or NSIS Portable as both of those apps use PAL and can serve as a template for you (at least for getting the files in Other\Source.

Title:

You might want to think about calling the forum topic "iPuissance Portable Development Test 1" so it will be easy for those when upgrading to know that there was a new release.

Thats all I got for now.

I made over 100 portable

I made over 100 portable apps, so yeah I guess I got the basic idea Wink

This time however I didn't use the usual program I made. I used PortableApps launcher which is the advised official way. That's why the Other/Source folder is empty: There is no source.

As for the 2 helps, is it disturbing? Actually everything else is at least bilingual.

I changed the link. Thanks for the template.

100 portable apps?

why haven't you posted them? Sad

There is stuff that goes into the source folder including license, INI, and a readme, just look at the apps I linked to.

The two helps don't bother me too much, its just that if it ever goes official, it would look weird. (at least I think so)

Good! Your welcome!

Application Template

With the PortableApps.com Launcher, you should base your package from the Application Template listed on the PortableApps.com Launcher page. It's got the useful information in Other\Source and the right structure and all.
