Extension and Themes won't install in [Google Chrome Portable 6.0.472.55 Stable]

Thread background info:
This thread is a continuation of one attached to the news article "Google Chrome Portable 6.0.472.55 Stable and 7.0.517.0 Development Released"

Found issue:
Extension and Themes won't install in [Google Chrome Portable 6.0.472.55 Stable]
This is the error message which is shown after attempting to install the extension ChromedBird; (Or any other)
---
Could not create directory for unzipping:
\Device\LanmanRedirector\fileserver\Users\MyUserName\Webbrowsers\Chrome6\Data\profile\Temp\scoped_dir_3024\CRX_INSTALL
---

Expected behaviour:
The previous version I used of Chrome Portable was version 4. This one was intalled next tot the "Chrome6" folder and never had any problems with installing extensions or themes. Method of installing was the same.

Install / OS info:
During install I selected:
Drive letter:\Webbrowsers\Chrome6

The drive letter is mapped to \\fileserver\users\MyUserName.
I have no idea where the '\Device\LanmanRedirector\' part comes from.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002, Service Pack 3
Limited user access rights to system partition / Windows registry.

I would appreciate any help. I've enjoyed the use of Chromed Portable for some time and would like to be able to continue to use it.

Thanks,
MZ

Chrome Hates UNC paths?

It would appear that Chrome is figuring out it is a UNC path and attemping to use that instead... and failing once it does. We don't do anything within our launcher other than work with the normal drive letter path. So, anything additional is the work of Chrome. Try running it from a real path like C:\ for a run and see if that works. If it does, it's your UNC path and there's not much we can do to fix it as it's a Chrome issue (and one they probably won't consider a high priority, I'd guess).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

RE: Chrome Hates UNC paths?

Unfortunately it seems you are correct.
I tried to make a new network connection to the fileserver based on DNS, Hostname and IP address and tried again. Nothing works.

Installing it on a local harddrive does however.

I'll have to settle installing it on the various PC's I'm using. At least I can share my Bookmarks etc. accross the different versions.

Thank you for your time to respond.

Best, MZ

Chrome Users Out of Luck

I'm sorry but now this appears to be a finger pointing match then. http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=35198

Does this mean we are just out of luck because neither Chrome or PortableApps is "at fault"?
