Self-Promotional Posting
"Promoting your own software is not currently permitted here (though it will be soon)."
- 2010-04-16
I'd like to self-promote, but I don't want to lie ("You can, of course, pretend that you simply "found" your own software").
Why I think I should be allowed to:
My software is portable by nature.
I want to support a PortableApps version. My software is shareware, but it's my my own software, so there's no problem with permissions.
I want to give an exclusive coupon just for my fellow users here. I realize it can be considered advertising, but I do think it's a nice gesture which would benefit everyone.
So what do you think?
You can't yet sell software in PortableApps.com Format (the installer and format are licensed for open source and freeware only at present) but you will be able to shortly.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I don't mean to sell your format, just like Skype and your other supported non free softwares don't sell it.
But what about the self promotion itself? Even if to nothing more than encourage the development of natively portable softwares (plus an exclusive coupon for the fellow users here).
You said your software is shareware. If it works in lite mode til you pay or only works for a set period of time til you pay or just requires payment to continue to use morally/ethically (all of which are considered shareware), that's commercial, and you can't yet distribute commercial software in PortableApps.com Format. Basically, if there is a payment at any point for the app itself (Skype wouldn't count because you are paying for online minutes for phone calls, not for the app).

Regardless of the debate on PortableApp format, can I promote a commercial portable software that answers some requests that were made in these forums before?
Software may only be permitted when it is in PortableApps.com Format. And commercial software can't yet be in PA.c Format. It will be soon, though. I'm discussing the current draft of the commercial software license with my lawyer in 2 hours.
