uTorrent 2.0.4.22150 - no update

Hello there,

I am having a problem with the actual uTorrent 2.0.4.22150 installer.
When executing the *_online.paf.exe and choosing the destination path, the installer proceeds, but does not do the internet update. This means that uTorrent.exe is not updated, there is still the old version in the destination path .\uTorrentPortable\App\utorrent\utorrent.exe. When pressing the "show info" button of the installer, which has to be done very fast, I can see the log for very short time, then the button/listbox is removed, so I can not see what the installer does. After this, the "finished" dialog is displayed as normal. At this moment, the log should still be visible as the installing is finished.
I would have expected an ask dialog from my firewall (kerio), but this does not happen. So I am having two problems, the vanishing log listbox and no utorrent.exe from the internet.

Does anybody else have these troubles? Check the help/about dialog from utorrent.
Please help.

regards,
xandl

Another uTorrent.exe?

Do you happen to have a uTorrent.exe file in the same directory that the uTorrentPortable_x.x.paf.exe installer is running from? If so, it is copying that in.

Yes - solved

Yes you are right, there was an older uTorrent.exe in the same directory. So my problem is solved, I am happy.
As a result, to avoid this in the future, two things come to my mind:
- the file could be taken from a new created temporary directory, that did not exist prior to update, to avoid choosing an existing file, or
- show the log listbox (or the button to show it) in the last install dialog, or create a log file in the destination directory hierarchy, to review what has happened while installing.

But I do not know if this really makes sense, or is possible at this stage of the installer evolution, to make the installer even better.

Thank you,
regards

Recent feature

This is a recent feature for our online installers, to make it so that the application can be downloaded by the Updater in the Platform (or by the user) manually (and all at once, ensuring before beginning that it'll be able to complete). Generally this won't get any sort of confusion like that, as it's more common to be dealing with a file name like AppName-0.0.zip or AppName_0.0.exe; it just happens that in uTorrent's case, it's called uTorrent.exe.

I see

This feature is new to me, but using a distinct directory beneath the *.paf.exe could be an option. I would not really vote for this change as it seems to be useful in rather rare occasions. You are completely right, utorrent is for sure an exception, the majority of downloads will have a number in their name.

What do you think about an installation log? There is a button to see what is going on, but it is removed when install has finished, what might be not intended. At this point, one can not review what exactly has happened. And there is no log file in the target directory structure, nor else where that I know of. I know that most people would not mind to see such details, but for more interested guys like me, or in case something unexpected has happened, such insight would be worth an extra log file, or instead the possibility to review the log listbox when install has finished. The log in the listbox might be preferable, as I think we want to save space on the target medium.

Fixed in 2.0.4.22450

This is fixed in today's release. It will not pick up utorrent.exe in the same directory any longer.
