Red Alert 1 & All Extensions

Hi everyone !

I'm to tell you if someone can make a portable Red Alert 1 -with extensions-.

'Cause on the Internet, I found the game but it was without Counterstrike and The Aftermath :/

Here are the details :

Program: Red Alert 1, Red Alert 1 : Counterstrike, Red Alert 1 : The Aftermath

License: Free (Abandonware) / Not OpenSource

Description:

Starting off in 1946, at the Trinity site in New Mexico, the opening to Red Alert shows Albert Einstein as he is preparing to travel backwards through space and time. After his experimental "Chronosphere" device is activated, he finds himself in Landsberg, Germany, in the year 1924, where he meets a young Adolf Hitler just after the latter's release from Landsberg Prison. Following a brief conversation between the two, Einstein shakes Hitler's hand, and this somehow eliminates Hitler's existence from time and returns Einstein to his point of origin.

With the threat of Nazi Germany having been successfully removed from history, the Soviet Union began to grow increasingly powerful under the rule of Joseph Stalin. Had Adolf Hitler risen to power, Nazi Germany would have emerged as a force standing in the way of Stalin's own ambitions of conquest. Instead, left unweakened, the USSR proceeds by seizing lands from China and then begins invading Eastern Europe, in order to achieve Joseph Stalin's vision of a Soviet Union stretching across the entire Eurasian landmass. In response, the nations of Europe form into the Alliance, and start a grim and desperate guerrilla war against the invading Soviet army. Over the course of the game's story, the Allies and Soviets fight out a devastating conflict for control over the European mainland, in what has become an alternate World War II.

Edit (:

Unfortunately, I think that the author of the download set it in French but if you find the English download (I can't find it anymore on EA site.), you can translate it back with changing some of *.MIX file.

NB: Sorry for my bad english.

its not abandonware.

it is freeware. very much so closed source. one would have to ask the Electronic Arts for permission before any thing can be done legaly.

also i second the removal of those links as they are not the correct download links to Red Alert. The official link is http://www.ea.com/redalert/news-detail.jsp?id=62

Here is a quote from a post i

Here is a quote from a post i made requesting a abandonware game be portabliized a while back about a abandonware game and this is the reply i got about it.

It's not a grey area at all. It's still illegal to download the game. There is no actual legal meaning to the term abandonware - it's a creation of geeks to make themselves feel that it is OK to download old software while allowing them to say "I would never pirate" in regards to more easily purchased or more modern games.

Note that I don't care if people want to download the stuff or not - it it not my job to control what others do. I just feel an obligation to point out that it is still illegal, even with the geek-approved abandonware title applied.

RagManX

I hope it opens you mind to what abandonware is, like it did for me.

check out wikipedia

they state that when Westwood was bought out by EA that EA made the older CnC games freeware. they released the original CnC iso's as freeware as well. its still closed source and i would recomend Warzone 2100 as a fun FOSS alternitive with a Portable Apps Port on this fine site. Note if you do online play of warzone 2100 you will get your butt whooped :3. i am still sore after having 240 cyborgs invade my base less than 10 minutes into the game. talk about ZERG rush.

Oh and Warzone is also avalible in multiple languages.

D-Fend Reloaded

As suggested previously for other classic games, you can easily install C&C 1 and 2 into D-Fend Reloaded. The author offers a PAF build on the website in the Other Install Packages section of the download page.

The application is FLOSS and hosted by Sourceforge. Description from the site below:

D-Fend Reloaded is a graphical environment for DOSBox. DOSBox emulates a complete computer including the DOS commandline and allows to run nearly all old DOS based games on modern hardware with any of the newer Windows versions.

Hopefully the author submits his PAF build to the forums for testing soon so it can be officially released here Smile
