Voice chats, Sound Comms, IM's

Hey, is there a Voice Chat or sound Comm of some sort that can connect to more than one, a few ot most other IM'sor Chat or sound comms, rather than absolutely having to have the same program like skype, or same messenger to talk ?. Like Pidgin can connect to several IM's...AND Or what's the most popular thing going for Voice chats ? skype ?

???????

I think I didn't understood you question very well...

Are you asking for a portable program for voice chat in gropus? then search for Portable TeamSpeak
Are you asking for a portable program for video chat in groups? there is no such thing, the only program for group video chat I know is not open source, is not portable, and is not freeware... www.oovoo.com
Are you asking for a portable voice chat with a single person? search for portable skype
Are you asking for a portable program for video chat with a single person? again skype
Are you asking which one is the most popular IM? I can only answer for portable ones... we have Miranda and Pidgin, I use to be a Miranda user, but I admit that Pidgin is the best and most popular (I used Miranda just because it's smaller in size)
Are you asking for the most popular video and/or voice chat? well, we only have portable skype... There other but not in paf format and not hosted by this site... search for wengophone at framakey site (it is mainly in French).

I hope I understood your question.

Regards.-

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

Unsure

I think the user is asking if there is a multi-protocol equivalent of Pidgin but for audio. I'm not aware of one but I believe that they are starting to integrate audio/video in Pidgin, so perhaps in a few versions it will gain audio support for the major IM networks.

Ok

Then, the answer is no, and is not going to happen, since Skype protocolo is completely closed... I read somewhere (a year ago) that skype was going to release their program on GPL but keeping the protocol as an industrial (and secret) patent...

I tried diferent VoIP program but everybody I know uses skype so no need for a multiprotocol.

But if you don't want a multiprotocol VoIP but only an IM that supports video and chat, pidgin have plugins for that (that work with other pidgin users, is not for MSN or any other protocol), I think Miranda have a plugin for that too, and google released a multiplatform plugin for video/voice chat in gtalk (inside the gmail site).

One Program, Many Uses

What I mean by multi-protocol is that Yahoo has it's own audio/video protocol, MSN has its, AIM has its etc etc. Currently I think Pidgin only supports Audio/Video over XMPP protocol but I generally use Skype to make Voice/Video calls so I don't really care. However, Pidgin may well eventually support using any voice/video over any/some of those IM networks. Until then I think the user is out of luck.

What I think the user is getting at, is that if they want to use video/voice on Yahoo and MSN (for example) then they have to use Yahoo and MSN messenger (there isn't one program like Pidgin that will do both).

Of course, I could have completely misunderstood the original user. Smile

Yep

You nailed it. There are a heck of a lot of people who get internet and use whatever they install for them or the Cd installs for them or even what ever new computers come with, so they end up using AIM, AOL, Yahoo, or MSN and they are either not knowledgeable enough, computer literate enough, or just plain don't want or trust enough to install or try something new and things like this, so for example, my Mother 65 yrs old, she don't want to mess with skype etc, she works 5 days a week, only gets on the computer every so often, so and she does know she has AIM, and she has family on there and since it starts automatically on her computer she don't have to look for it, it's right there in her window/browser for her to see and use with a click on a name, so yes, if Pidign could do voice with AIM, Yahoo etc, would be exactly what I am talking about. There are A LOT of people adults and teenagers and gamers alike who just use the "name" or popular brands I guess I would call it, like AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Icq.
