Portable Evolution Mail by Novell

Did a quick search and didn't see another topic on this one.

Evolution is a free package from Novell, and is available for Windows based systems as well as Linux systems. I find it to be nicer than Thunderbird because of the Calendar integration - in fact it looks very much like Outlook, only far lighter and faster.

Is this one a possibility?

Also - thanks for all the hard work - you do excellent stuff on this site!

Pre-Alpha

Evolution is primarily a Linux application designed as an Outlook replacement. The *very first* Windows ports of it were released recently, but it's extremely unstable.. and usually crashes within a little while of using it. I was able to get it to connect to my IMAP server and send email, play around with addresses a bit, but when I restarted it, it corrupted my profile and crashed on launch. This happened more than once.

So, for now, it's not really worth exploring. But, I am monitoring the progress of Evolution and plan on doing a portable version once it's in a state that it can be used on a daily basis.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Nice. It's always great when software wreaks havoc like that. I played around with that same Win port of it a few nights ago after thoroughly enjoying it on my Server03/Ubuntu box. Didn't crash on me, but I didn't do much with it other than add one POP account, send a test message and then uninstall it again. The install I got was from Sourceforge listed as Evolution 2 - not sure of the exact version number.

Thanks for the quick reply, and hopefully we'll see a stable enough Win port of it in the future. It certainly is a great app - now if would only run in Windows...
