Almost ready

Looking good.

Two last points:

  • The Development Test structure should be with "Development Test N" on the end of the DisplayVersion - not just Test.
  • Don't use a trailing slash on FilesMove. I don't think it breaks anything in FilesMove, but in other parts like DirectoriesMove it will - and it's just not as neat, too.

Unfortunately, we then come to the next item; I tried actually using to see if I could work out somewhat what it does or is meant to do. I managed to break it somewhat so that the lists just weren't displaying what I think they're meant to. Perhaps someone who knew what they were doing would cope better - but I think the app needs to be made more resilient. Try just playing round with it from the fresh installation and just doing almost random things.

Also, check for updates claimed the version I have is out of date when I don't believe it is.

RE: Almost ready

Glad to see I'm getting closer. I will clean up those two items shortly.

As for the app, keep in mind that it is itself in Beta. There were some major changes to replace an ActiveX grid with a native C++ one in order to make this application portable. I'm still working out the kinks and new betas are coming out every few days. I should have any odd behaviors cleaned up by the time the app and its portable edition come out of beta. So I'm in fact in a double-beta at the moment: Beta testing the app itself and beta testing the portable package.

Good catch on the "check for updates" feature. That was actually an issue with the website, it had not been updated from Beta6 to Beta7. That's fixed now and the portable package is not affected. If you try the link again it will work.

As always, thank you for your detailed testing and useful feedback Chris!

RE: Almost ready

Chris,
I took care of the two items with the package itself.

Now that the PA.com package has stabilized, I will start work on Beta8. If you get a chance, could you post some details about the issue you encountered with the software itself (break it somewhat so that the lists just weren't displaying what I think they're meant to). I would like to ensure those issues are addressed as part of Beta8.

Also, if you are interested in learning more about the software itself, you can try the tutorial here: http://metalogicsw.com/financeexplorer/tutorial/.

Thank you,

Merged back

I've merged your new thread back into here; in Beta Testing we only create a new thread when a thread exceeds one page (90 comments) or it goes on from Development Test to Pre-Release or official release or the developer changes or something drastic like that.

RE: Merged back

OK. So I should just edit my post as I update from say Test 1 to Test 2?

I believe the package is now up to standard (I took care of your last two points). I will continue working on MLFE betas and repackage them as they are released.

I have a question that is a bit off topic but since you are a moderator here you might know or perhaps point me in the right direction. I am unable to log on to this site. Every morning I need to reset my password because it won't accept the password I set the day before. Very frustrating. It also wipes out my signature and other data. Is there perhaps a problem with my account? Is it a known issue with this site? I know for sure the password is correct as I copy and paste it. I could perhaps get it wrong once but this has happened every single day since I've joined PA.com.

No Links In Signatures

No links are permitted in signatures to avoid spammers. You have a link to your homepage already set in your profile that shows next to your name (with the appropriate NOFOLLOW set on it). It could be an issue with your password getting corrupted when the signature is removed. Most people realize it was removed and stop setting it after the first time, so we haven't run into anyone complaining about having to keep resetting their password.

RE: No Links In Signatures

I see. I will make sure my signature doesn't contain links. Not trying to spam, my signature has always contained a link and I have not run into issues in the past on other sites.

I will clear that up.

Thanks for the info.

John, Please note that the

John,
Please note that the signature settings box has the following misleading text:

Your signature will be publicly displayed at the end of your comments.

* Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically.
* Allowed HTML tags: (REMOVED)

This implies that links are supported. This should probably be changed to avoid confusion for newcomers.

Thanks!

Can't Be Changed

That can't be changed, it's part of the Drupal (CMS) interface and part of the fact that Signatures are treated as "Filtered HTML", the same as posts.

The details are contained in the guidelines here: https://portableapps.com/forums/guidelines

Signatures are for indicating who you are, posting a personal quote, etc. They are not for advertising (aka self-promotional posting). Please adjust your new signature appropriately.
