new U3 Version of Firefox?

Hello,

will there ever be a new U3 Version of Firefox or Thunderbird?

I looked in the forum, but found no hint on the last pages...

Please don't tell me to use the portable version instead, as i have a U3 Stick and i want the software to be shown in the U3 Launchpad.

If it is possible to decompress the portable version and put it in the exec directory on the u3 stick and that works "as an update" - that would be fine.

As the 1.5.0.7 might be the last 1.5 version John could think of a new release of that version.

Thank you for your input and help.

Markus

Released

You are aware that 1.5.0.7 is the most recent *RELEASED* version of Mozilla Firefox at the moment, right? The 2.0 RC3 Portable version is a *TEST* version that is separate from the main released version of Firefox Portable which is still at 1.5.0.7 as well.

As I mentioned in the other thread, no public test releases of the U3 apps are done due to the fact that they contain closed source software. Thus, they're not 100% open source and can't be hosted on SourceForge. Plus, U3 doesn't allow for side-by-side testing of the current 1.5.0.7 and the upcoming 2.0 RC (what lots of people do when testing new portable apps) or running apps locally (what lots of people are doing to test Firefox 2.0 by using the Portable version).

The U3 versions are based on the Portable versions... so the Portable versions act as the test bed for new releases. Minor releases of the U3 versions generally follow in 1/2 to 1 week the release of the Portable version (Final that is, not Release Candidate). For major releases, like 2.0 of Firefox, the apps have to go through yet another round of self-certification and then U3 certification. So, you're looking at about 2 weeks after the Portable version is released.

You're welcome to test Firefox Portable 2.0 RC3 alongside your installed copy of Firefox for U3 as it doesn't interfere with it.

Where can i find the 1.5.0.7 U3 version?

Hi John,

thank you for you reply.

Where can i find the 1.5.0.7 U3 version download? I only find the portable verion, but not a U3 Version ???

Just give me a hint and point my nose on it Smile

Markus

Ps: I am not looking for a test version. I am looking for a final U3 1.5.0.7 version.

Firefox update

I think you can also use the Update function implemented in Firefox (help-menu -> look for updates)
But I dont know what this does to the portability of U3FF.

Nope

He was asking for a test release of Firefox (2.0 RC3). These aren't released as updates. RCs are test versions intended for testers and other geeks, not general end users. The Updater only brings in official releases.

You can always create your

You can always create your own shortcut to the portable version of Fx on the U3 bar - that's what I did - lets you use it on older Windows as well.
