apps in zip foler

Hello I'm new to this forum. I was just wondering if you guys could put apps in a zip folder instead of an installer. The reason is because I need some apps for a friend and he uses a mac. I can't install it at his place. So I was wondering if you guys could put the mac files in a zip folder so I can extract it onto my usb drive. Thanks.

Not exactly clear what you are asking...

All the portable apps are designed to run on Windows, although they can also be run on Linux machines using WINE. I'm pretty sure none of them work on a Mac at all.

However, I think what you are saying is:
Your friend has a mac, you have a PC and a USB drive.
Your friend has internet access, and you either don't or his connection is much better.
You want to download the apps at your friend's place, but run them on your computer.

Just download them and store them on your USB. Once you are back on your PC (or any PC) you can install them onto your drive.

A point of historical fact - the earliest PortableApps.com were zipped files. We've evolved to use NSIS installers, so that we can preserve settings during upgrades, automate the installs, and a lot more.

Oh, and Welcome to PortableApps!

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Let me try and explain it

Let me try and explain it again. Ok so my friend has a mac. He doesn't want me to install it on his mac I'm not sure why ( He's picky I guess ) . I need a zip folder with the apps for mac that can extract it on my computer. It isn't for running on my pc it's for running on his mac. I also thought you guys had portable apps for mac.

Do you understand? All I need is a zip folder with the mac apps.

Mac != Windows

You cannot run Windows applications on Mac, natively. The only way you're going to get Windows applications to run on Mac is to go to http://www.winehq.org/ and install their software, which is not portable.

Na na na, come on!

Parallels

Or use Parallels virtual machine, but that wouldn't be portable either, even though technically you could run portable apps inside it. Smile

the long and short answer is No.

we had at one point a very old and outdated Mac Emulator that emulated a very very old mac (Pre PowerPC).

none of OUR apps are for the mac. the apps here usualy have source code on the parent site and can be compiled on the mac.

Running on his PC will require Wine. Parrelels is actualy a VM not a API emulator like WINE. Wine is mostly supplied by code from CodeWeavers the creators of http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/ . buying that will allow one to run most windows programs in the Intel Mac Environment.

in short you cannot do what you want easlily

Windows Only

As a few other people mentioned, this site does Windows apps.

Putting them in a zip file won't help because inside of the installer .exe are more .exe. Zip files won't help these Windows apps run on a Mac.

Instead, there are many similar collections for Mac that do the same core function as this site's apps do, but for Mac.

Looks like a case of misunderstanding

It looks to me like you are confusing PortableApps with portable apps. There is a difference.

PortableApps is a specific format for making Windows apps portable, which is all that this site deals in, while portable apps is a generic title for any app that is portable, regardless of platform.

So while, yes, there are portable apps out there for Mac, there are no PortableApps for Mac.

About

Perhaps the PortableApps.com About page should be updated to reflect the fact that the primary target audience are Windows users. The only reason I say "primary target audience" is because we know that some users run these apps in Wine on Linux, and I'm not prepared to argue semantics.

Maybe the about page could even go so far as to clarify that PortableApps apps are not intended for the Mac OS X platform (Power PC or Intel) and that (correct me if I'm wrong) there is no possibility of running PortableApps apps on those architectures (except under a virtual machine which then isn't portable and so defeats the purpose).

@ieattachos: Which part of "We do not do Mac apps" is unclear to you? This isn't some conspiracy against you. Nor are we trying to mislead you. The facts are the facts: This website and its developers do not produce apps capable of running on any Apple Mac platform. Any other site that uses "portableapps" is either doing so illegally i.e. intentionally trying to rip off the name of this site to gain popularity/hits/recognition etc OR they are doing so in a generic sense, "portable apps" i.e. applications that can be used in a per-system-independent (portable) fashion from removable media such as USB Flash drives. Freesmug is in no way related to this site (to the best of my knowledge).

Well, instead of telling the

Well, instead of telling the user what happens, why don't we show him/her?

Here is a link to 7-Zip Portable, in a zip instead of an exe (ironic right?). It will not work on a Mac, but you can try anyway since this is what you requested.
