In the site https://portableapps.com/support/thunderbird_portable#installing
it reads, "Just copy all of those files to the Data\profile directory within Thunderbird Portable."
It tried to overwrite the existing default profile folder, so I stopped the install and changed the name of the default profile, then migrated the profile and changed it's name to "profile" exactly as the default read.
Presumably I can delete the renamed default profile?
Recommend that this be included on the website, words to the effect that the files within the profile, not the profile "slt", be copied over which will overwrite existing profiles."

It's the files INSIDE the profile directory that are copied. Not the profile directories themselves. Within Thunderbird Portable, there is only ONE profile, and it's at ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile

Thanks, that's what I thought and did with FFP. And now in TB I've deleted the extra profile folder where the name was changed.
However, there is another profile in FFP under FFP\default data\profile which is in addition to the one being used under data. Can that default data\profile be deleted or is it needed?
It's the default profile used by TBP. If you delete it, then if you need to start a new profile, it will use TB's default rather than TBP's. And TBP may not correctly create all its needed directories.
I'm still amazed by how many people miss the readme files about this stuff.
In the App folder the readme says "The files in this directory are necessary for Thunderbird Portable to function. There is normally no need to directly access or alter any of the files within these directories."
In the DefaultData folder, the readme says "DefaultData is used by Thunderbird Portable to construct a set of default data. It is not where you put your own files."
